PBA/Sport condition ups and downs..
« on: May 24, 2006, 03:24:57 PM »
Well, I started my Teusday night PBA leauge 3 weeks ago. The past 3 game series since I started were, 391, 532, 524 for an average of: 160.7. (This is on the Viper pattern)

My Wednesday night PBA Leauge (4 game series) 648, 763 for an average of 176.3.

Tonight I rocked the 1st 2 games, 222, then 211, but then fell off the last 2 games, only mustered up a 169 and a 161. Lost mental thought then lost the shot all together.

I have a question for you.  I am also bowling in a PBA pattern league and we used the Viper for the first 2 weeks.  I have never bowled on this pattern before and was wondering what you opinion of the pattern is.  It seems to me that the shot plays great straight down 5.  Is this a normal shot for this pattern?  After 8 games I am averaging 219.  We switch to a diffrent pattern next week so we will see what that does.

Phoneman,
Although you didn't ask me, I'll chime in, if you don't mind.  I have been practicing on the Viper pattern for the past two weeks at the same house as IL's Wednesday league.  The surface is older Anvilane.  I find that they play quite nicely down five, or thereabouts.  I don't know what might be considered a normal shot for this pattern.  The PBA says that this pattern can be played in many different ways.

The Viper pattern typically plays outside the track area at the breakpoint. Depending on the lane surface you should be able to find a good line somewhere between playing straight up the twig to bumping around the 7 board.

Well, Ive been playing 13 to about 7-1 at the breakpoint. Yes you heard it, 7 board area!! Dumped it in the gutter twice, dropped my shoulder at the line and sent the ball wide to early. Whoops! I found the outside shot to be better scoring for me then say playing 25-10/15 area.

Next week Tuesday night, We goto the Shark Pattern. 1 more week of the viper pattern on wednesday nights.

Rick Wunder, do you bowl in the wed. night PBA leauge?? Your name sounds really familiar.

IL,
I bowled in that league for several years.  This summer, I have decided to cut back on my league schedule, and my choices were to give up the PBA league or the scratch trios league in which I bowl with my son, who is home from college for the summer.  Although the PBA league is better for my game, I chose to bowl with my son.

As to how you know my name, it could be one of a couple of things.  I have been bowling leagues at Hawthorn for several years, and I have bowled in the ABT even longer.

Ahhh theres the reason why, I was at 1 time a huge ABT bowler then after many tournaments of not even making the cut, i was losing more money then I could really afford. The last tournament I did was about 8 months ago at Bertrand Lanes in the Masters Division. Placed 6th that day and shut up alot of people that said I wasnt ready to bowl with the "big dogs".
