Dead man's Curve
« on: July 14, 2009, 07:15:38 AM »
Has anyone bowled on this before? I am suppose to shoot on this tonight. Here's the description of the shot:

This 43 foot pattern has more out of bounds than most patterns because of the increased application of conditioner on the forward pass. With a slight increase slope of oil from the tenth board to the fourteenth board on the return pass, the goal of the player is to target along those boards of extra conditioner without swinging the ball too much towards the outside part of the lane. Players who try to excessively curve the ball with too much speed will find DEAD MAN'S CURVE hazardous to their score.

If you shot on this , what ball surface did you use? Pin Placement? I am bowling 3 games across 3 pairs. There are a lot of wannabe be bowlers who think they are Gods shooting 215 on a THS.They stand left throw right with a monster soaker. I tend to stay right maybe a little inside.I'm a tweener nothing big.I just want to see what could match me up the best and stay as clean as possible.

Oh, it is a wood house, if that helps. Thanks!!

I used a box finish Hy-Road, played the track area to start, around 13-9 small swing, progressively moved in all night. It wasn't easy but its definitely score able.

I bowled on synthetics so i don't know what to say about what to expect on wood, but the pattern broke down fairly quickly in the league i bowled and it really opened up.

Sorry i forgot i haven't updated my profile. I throw 17mph off my hand, right at 300 rpm, i consider myself a stroker, but some say i'm more of a tweener. I didn't do anything different than just roll it in the track area, and it broke down as we went on and it turned into the track area was the friction spot to bounce off of by the end of the night.

I bowled a tourney on this condition over memorial day weekend. Shot isn't too terrible. Played pretty tight in the beginning going 16 to12. Shot clean game 199. Moved a little right on game 2 and went up 10-11. Shot 244. As game 3-6 continued I slowly began to move my mark to the left. (Right handed) By game six I was playing 17 to 12. Had great ball reaction the whole time and never game the head pin away. Was throwing a Hammer Anger at 800grit sanded. Pin is just to the right of the ring finger with the cg swung out and a small weight hole. Hope this helps. BTW throw it 15-16 mph stroker with low-medium revs.

if i play on any lanes that put down a long oil pattern with oob outside 10, then i would use something very mild on the backend, a midpriced ball like raid or equation. the key point for me is to keep break point close to around the 13th board and let the ball turn right first and make the final move left. of course i use a bit more tilt so i dont get lots of corner pins.

i would also pay extra attention to wood surface, breakdown will be faster, so be ahead of the change, rather hit lite and leave a 10 than goin thru the nose

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

On pro anvil lanes, I have had the most success with a label drilled ebonite gamebreaker, focusing on throwing the ball slower and playing 15-10, a very tight line to the hole.

Once this pattern blows open its easier than most house shots imo. Throw it right watch it strike.

I shot on it last night.  Similar to Scropion PBA shot.  I started with a Rogue Cell playing small out angle at12 board.  However the shot was transitioning to fast for the Cell.  Had best luck with Wild Ride that I ended up playing18 out to 12.  Toughest part was the quick transitions.

Bob, Do you bowl in NJ?

I use a Freeze 4000 with Power house polish. For me this pattern does not play much more difficult than a house pattern. Depending on who is bowling with me and how many people show up to bowl, I usually start 18 at the arrows out to about 7 6 5 but migrate pretty quickly inside. Usually by the fourth game I am lofting the gutter laying it down on the 30th board to about 11 10 9. The house I bowl in has alot of FRICTION, so I don't think the pattern plays the way it should. Another house witch is synthetic I have to play about 13 to 7 8ish with a Lev Rg at 1500.  Not sure if this will help you, I am over 500 rev rate and over 19.5 mph C.A.T.S. Good Luck!!!!
