« on: June 22, 2015, 05:14:45 PM »
Bowling was shortlisted (1 of 8 sports) for inclusion into 2020 Olympics
Sounds like a good move to me.

Let's say bowling gets the nod for the Olympics. And as huge as it is in Japan (gauging off of the Japan Cup) and the far east, it would have a nice sized field for it.. Since NBC would have the rights to it in the US, who do you'd think they'd send for commentators?

I could already see Randy going over, but I'm having the hardest time remembering when NBC last aired a bowling show, let alone who the commentators were..

I still see the barometer for this being the Pan Am games combined with the QubicaAMF World cup, as far as the number of countries and participants go.

Isn't Randy under contract with ABC/ESPN?

That's my point. I don't know who they would get, because most familiar with the sport and commentating are with ABC/ESPN, with the exception of the colour commentators, like Rob Stone or Dave Ryan. So I don't know who they'd get.

Granted, this is all hypothetical and assuming bowling gets in. But again, given the huge popularity it has in Japan, bowling has a damn good chance of getting in. I think we in the US, based with how the sport has been declining here, have seem to overlook how big the sport may be everywhere else in the world. Prime example of that was when we had an all-Korean title match for the Scorpion in the 2010/2011 season.

Something we sometimes forget.  Other than baseball, basketball, football hockey and soccer every sport in this country is really a niche sport.  Getting bowling into the Olympics will not change that.  However it is about how big a niche a sport has, and bowling could increase its niche more than many other sports could be getting in.
