i was a little disgusted at the way the lanes opened up for the lefties today...i struggled to go +52, and i was actually pretty satisfied with the way i threw the ball.  its a little obvious when, like lonce said, 27 of the 45 that cashed were lefties, and the field is dominated by righties overall.  for me, i started at 10 going out to 8, and by the end of the day was at 30 throwing over 17.  i was actually preparing myself for the lanes to be extremely tight, and by the 3rd game i was already swinging the ball with my pro stock pearl.  every lefty i saw had plenty of room to play with.  of the two i got to watch all day, i dont think either could have moved 4 boards the entire day.  i say they put all the lefties on the same pairs(and separate them so that when they skip they end up on the "lefty" pair ahead of them) until there are no more, so they get to bowl on the same inconsistent shot that most righties saw today.  it was alot of fun, and i hope to do it again next year, but i wasnt particularly happy with the shot.  put down a flood(on both sides) like it was supposed to be, and lets all average 190 and make it interesting.  hope everyone else that went had a good time.

Eric,

Sorry I missed you. I saw Lonce there. 230 over is not bad considering he didn't "wake up" til the 3rd game.

I was pretty surprised at the shot myself; it was the house pattern but slightly heavier - a medium-heavy oil that, as Eric said, opened up quite  a bit in the 3rd game. Well, everyone was using very strong, rough balls.

I saw Jordan hitting them very well from the start; the left side was lighter in oil and, of course, due to the lesser number of lefties, it held up better. Actually there were many more lefties than I expected, higher than the 10% average.

Eric, You might have liked last year's reverse block much better, but I think too many whiners complained; so out came the "house shot".

jeff,

sorry i missed you.  i saw lonce walking by a few times, but the crowd got in the way of me getting over during the tourney.  as for the shot, the percentage of lefties that cashed proved the inequality on the right side of the lane.  for most of the day, i had a pretty decent look, but very minimal transitions turned potential strings into doubles and triples sandwiched by 10 pins.  with the lefties, there was no transition, at least from what i could tell, and all they did was move left as the oil broke down with the same breakpoint(and same carry) as before the move.  the righties just seemed to have that "squirrely" reaction that norm duke commented on, and while it wasnt that difficult to get it to the pocket, getting the 7 and 10 to fall consistently was almost impossible with the inconsistent look.  like i said, i was happy to be +52 after the 10 games, but i only had 7 opens the entire day, with 4 of them being splits.  i guess i was a little surprised at the scoring pace based on what i had heard from last year, when im assuming the righties domintaed with lonce and mack at the top.

Well, while the righties had the house shot and all the transitions that entails, 7 pins and 10 pins are the scruge of Carolier. It's always been not too difficult to get to the pocket but hard to carry solid pocket hits. Light hits seem to be much easier with lots of side wall action. The gutters are just deep enough to wrap 4 pins around 7 pins and 6 pins around 10 pins.

Eric, did you have the blue storm shirt on yesterday, if so you were a spitting image of Timmy Mack. the left side was insane, it had no O.B at all, in the beginning I had quirted a few right and it was washout! Once the shot broke down I was able to get comfortable playing 6th and some 7th arrow shooting 1200 for the back 5 games. I hope next year the shot is a little more equal on both sides. thanks Charlest for the support in the back at least i won a pot with 289, the total day was not a lost..the next stop is the NEBA.

lonce,

that was me with the blue storm shirt...tommy and the gang in the pro shop there told me i looked like mack the first time i met them, and seeing him yesterday in person made me laugh because its so true.  to top it off, he bowled on teh pair next to me, and he just happened to be wearing the exact same shirt.  from what i could tell, he seemed to struggle a little, although he did have some pretty good games(beat me 246-236 in game 1 of the bracket).  as for the shot, once again i have to agree that there was no comparison between the right and left side.  anything pushed right of 5 on the right was either a washout or a 3 count, while i had a lefty on my pair going out to 3 or 4 every shot and burying the pocket.  i was hitting the 1-3 most of the day, but my carry wasnt that great...hopefully ill convince myself to get something to handle more oil by next year and hope the shot is a little bit more even.

BTW, i saw something at linden lanes this morning that mentioned a singles tournament at jersey lanes in the near future...does anyone have any info on it?

it was also a 10 gamer in east medow L.I, NY. A lefty Tony Campangna crushed them over there too being 541 over. I guess it was week of the lefty.
