Recently noticed something about my bowling hand
« on: December 04, 2005, 08:32:18 AM »
Thursday Night I noticed where the skin flexes naturally from the joint. The skin is starting to peal and crack. If you face your right hand at you showing the palm, then look at the fingers where the 1st joint is at from the finger tips, in that ridge the right part of of the skin is starting to peal/split. Hurts like hell too.

Im wondering if i were to get a ebonite glove (kinda like what pete weber had on today) if that would cure this problem? I think it would but just looking for outside thoughts.

I don't know if this applies to you but that happens to me when I do one or both of two things:
1. use too much rosin PLUS
2. stick my fingers into the fingerholes past that joint.

When I do either or both of these, the skin at that joint will crack and, if it's deep enough, blood will come oozing out. That can make gripping the ball a "slippery" event.

All kidding aside. I stoped doing both, using a rosin bag only when ABSOLUTELY essential, and I use shims to keep the finger holes very close to the exact size of my finger; so I cannot shove them deeper.

Also try using some hand cream with aloe and/or Vitamin E. Both heal the skin very quickly. Try applying some of that at home before leaving for bowling. Your hands are too damned dry.

Okay.

I dont use rosin period. I used it once and had a huge problem with keeping the ball from falling off my hand years back so i stopped using it. As for the fingers into the finger holes, I use inserts that are 1 size larger then where they need to be but thats only cause my fingers swell up super fast, by the 2nd or 3rd frame my fingers fit in the ball perfectly. I'll try using some hand cream, see if that helps. It is winter outside and my hands dry up faster as im sure everyone elses does this too. Thanks. If this dont work, then ill goto plan B.

If using lotion doesnt work i would try putty some skin patch on there before you start bowling(Use the patched to they make the skin patch last twice as long).

I tried using just new skin last week, I think it made it worse, sure as hell hurt more. I'll try some things, Glove and new inserts for both balls would be around $30 total so its not a huge money issue.

If it's already cracked, NuSkin will sting like the dickens, hurt even. Acetone, which is the drying agent in NuSkin, in an open wound is like squeezing fresh lemon juice in a cut. You'll be singing soprano for a while.

Its not an open cut yet but its getting there. I know all too well about open blisters/cuts and new skin. You should see my thumb with the Calus i got from the era when i gripped the ball for all its worth.

No insult intended. You never know how much someone knows or doesn't know. So, I feel it's better to repeat something than to leave it unsaid, open for misinterpretation.

If you're not bleeding yet, use aloe vera gel (not lotion or cream, the actual gel). It adds moisture to your skin, and will sooth away the dryness and irritation. Use it every few hours when you notice the skin becoming pretty dry again. After a few days of this treatment, your skin should be better. This is what I use to recover from blisters (after a day or two of neosporin), and it helps me heal pretty fast.
