I seem to be using stronger equipment than everyone else on the lanes and seeing less for my efforts.
I went to practice yesterday morning and the house i was in was like night and day over the house i practiced in sat. Sat. i was leaving ten pins and playing up 17 to carry so i thought there was oil on the lanes which is why the shot i had to play was so much tighter. I am shooting a mission,a magic,a mutant,and an nvd,and nothing was consistent. Yesterday the lanes were wide open.
I was standing 35 playing out to 5 on some shots and could do nothing but strike. Bad shots miss left and the balls held miss right and they recovered and i thought because the lanes were drier was why i had so much better success.Then i went to another alley yesterday afternoon.
Now again i was playing a tighter line with little,check that no success. ONe of the guys I was bowling with says the lanes were dry. Everyone elses stuff was hooking to the pocket, going brook,and mine was barely wrinkleing. Then i picked up my fast with a 6 inch pin up drill and from the same spot,(with less speed),i found a line to the pocket. I couldnt understand why my weak ball would move and my strong stuff wouildnt.
I was throwng the fast slower,but I was striking.So why wouldnt my more aggressive equipment work. I mean not even a little. I was still playing a tight shot and stll had to move up on the approach and still had to watch my speed,but it was like night and day over what i was getting before.
My question is what was i seeing.Burnt heads with carry down is what i am thinking and i guess this is what you would expect after a good day of use. But i see the same thing in league on a fresh shot. So was there a fresh shot when the balls were moving and a burnt shot when they wernt,or am I just crazy and have not even a general clue to what i am supposed to be doing. I dont throw the ball hard ,12 14 mph at the best,and how do you throw a ball through the break point if the lanes are dry,carry down,balls burn up in the heads no energy on the back in carry down.I am a big dumby. Weak ball gets through the burntheads but if I throw to hard the carry down will make it slide,ten pin .Geesh dont slap me .Any comments will be appreciate it especially if i am wrong.

This is a common problem actually. I think people tend to forget that a ball needs to go through three stages to strike constantly. It has to have the Skid/slide, hook then roll. Burnt heads give you an early roll, usually without the hook part where the ball starts slowing down. In my experience, a rolling ball doesn't hook.

So, the agressive balls like the ones you listed will have problems if you can't find oil to get the skid part of the equation. That means no hook, they just roll out. Not to mention, if you do get them to roll into the pocket, they tend to leave some ugly splits.

How do you solve this problem? Playing a deeper line should help. Of course you mention the breakpoint issue with carrydown. If you can't adjust your breakpoint away from the carrydown and still get to the pocket, then you just have to take what the lane will give you. Try everything. One of my favorites is to play the twig. Most bowlers seem to be afraid of that area, so you might have it all to yourself and it can be a great shot.

sounds like your equipment is burning up and rolling out,
which is caused from using too strong of equipment on too dry of a shot

almost all those balls you listed except for the fast really need a heavy type of condition to work well on especially the mutant

what I normally do on shots where its burn up in the front and carry down on the back is simply use an older reactive ball with some polish on it (something from the early 90's not a 5 or 6 year old ball)
and move a little right,
the older stuff has much weaker coverstocks and you can get much more length out of them especially when they are polished but they still have the resin type of snap to them so they will get through the carry down and still give you good carry,

I find that even todays low performance equipment is still too strong to get good length on burnt up front parts of the lane

This is probably the easiest way to do it without changing your release motion

other times you might be able to move way right and play very outside down and in with a little bit more speed with a weaker release and weaker piece of equipment

Stronger cover balls need more oil to skid. When you use a ball like a Mutant it will lose all energy early on dry lanes. When this happens go right to your WEAKEST ball. Good Luck.

Everybody so far has nailed it. Think about it this way: "strong" equipment does NOT mean "more hook." It means it is meant to create more friction in oil.

Other posters have it right, but here's one more penny for your thoughts. This is the analogy that I give people who have the issue that you do. With all those strong covered balls, you're trying to play your best golf with a bag full of drivers. The drivers might have some subtle differences, but they're all designed for the same purpose and all have the same inherent weaknesses. Golfers carry 14 different clubs, and each is designed with a unique purpose and has their own utilities. When purchasing bowling balls, you need a "club" in your bag that matches each condition you typically see.
