Why do we see some people with......
« on: November 24, 2003, 07:54:08 AM »
fluctuations in scores from one game to another during a night of league play?

It has happen to me on occassions but I notice for some people it happens to them almost every night. Most of the time my three games will stay with in a 30 pin range. Is this a result of Lane Specific Balls, Lanes Breaking Down, or just the skill of the bowler?

I would have to say it comes down to the skill level of the bowler. The ability to read the lanes, adjust to the condition and the ability to recognize when a transistion is taking place all come from practice. It is unfortunate that the majority of todays bowlers can`t or just don`t find the time to practice in order to develop these skills. Most rely on ball technology to mask their lack of skill and the end result, incosistent sets. I`m as guilty of this as the next guy. So,what do I do about it? I leave the center wondering where I went wrong, go home and drive my wife crazy talking about it. Her usual response is PRACTICE DUMMY!

Ah, fluctuating scores. In general, I think it could be a combination of all three reasons you gave. Fluctuation has hurt my series quite a bit this year. I usually start well but drop at the end of the set. Lets see, I attribute it to the following things. A.- beer and vodka! LOL! I have cut back to just a nip of vodka before warm-up and continue with creme soda or root beer for the rest of the night. B.- food. Hard to maintain a certain energy level without a good meal before bowling. C.- transition. Many times I dont switch balls til its too late. D. Bowler error, bowler error, bowler error!

Bones, I hope you are not referring yourself as a hack in bowling.

Vlor, LOL! Leave it to a spouse to give the direct and right answer. Just wanted you to listen DEAR! I know I have to PRACTICE.

I was thinking of this question towards the bowlers in the league with higher averages. I can't believe that they have been bowling for years and are not willing to try something different. Comical phrases I hear: "That was the same shot!", "I was robbed!", and the best one (I laugh the most at), "I hit the pocket!". I guess some of it has to be on knowing if you delivered the ball correctly and watching how it behaves going down the lane.

I really wish I had this ability with my golf swing. I get up to the tee and just hope that the ball goes straight! If I top it, slice it, pull it, pop the d-mn thing straight up in the air, or just plain MISS IT!!!! When its my turn to hit again, I just hope that the ball goes straight!!!!
