Posting as a general for discusion / opinions.

IDK but when I look at these standings over the years kinda looks likes the pre-50s bowlers had more game then us now with their primitive straight balls and on lacquer and shellac finishes.

A lot of records were set on shellac pre 1950.  They lasted for many years.  If those scores were a measure of skill it would make bowling the only activity where players didn't progress over the years.
