Title: Phoenix Az. Lessons with Ron Clifton
Post by: Magic Carpet on May 31, 2004, 02:32:29 AM
If anyone in the Phoenix area is interested in lessons I have one open day available. It is Tuesday June 22nd.
I need someone to help me out by picking a good bowling center to work in, find out what times we can get the lanes and reserve them.
My rates are:
1 person for 2 hours $120
2 people for 2 hours $200 save $40 as a couple

group lessons:
This is really better because you get more total time and will learn more for less money:

4 people for 4 hours $400 = $100 per person
6 people for 6 hours $540  = $90 per person
(does not include lineage) Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back…all but lineage!

This site has been acting strange lately.

I will see you at Fort Huachuca, Ron.  Have a good West Coast trip.

Noon or a little after would be best for me I think.

Ron - with Phoenix being such a sprawling city, I'll see what I can find that is somewhat centrally located, unless there are a bunch of people planning to attend from one area of the city.  It shouldn't be hard to find a center with available lanes on Tuesday afternoon.

Thanks for your help. I have never been in the area before so setting this stuff up from here is much harder.

Just need to make a few calls.  The two centers most centrally located would be Thunderbird and Squaw Peak.  Both are the same size, I just need to make a couple of phone calls.  All let you know ASAP.

Ron,

I reserved lane space for 4 to 10 bowlers at 1pm on Tuesday June 22nd at Thunderbird lanes (under "Anderson").  If we need more space, it should not be a problem.  The address/location:

2430 West Indian School Rd.
Phoenix, AZ
602-264-3174

Easy to get to from anywhere in the valley, it is on the northeast corner of I-17 and Indian School road.

Let me know if there is anything else you need.

Hey Ron!

I won't be able to join you for the lessons, but I will at least stop by and say hi!

I look forward to finally meeting you in person after talking on-line for at least 5 years now.

Speaking of which.....how is Steffie??

Leftside, I thought you were supposed to be moving to Florida or was that someone else?  With all of the multiple posters or posters that spoof regular posters, I get confused real easy lately.

I am going to be meeting Ron in a couple of hours for lessons.  Little does he realize how much work he has waiting for him.

Just got back from my first clinic with Ron so I thought I would post a bit about it.

First off, Ron seems to be a great guy with a good personality, able to get along with many types.  Our class consisted of two married couples and myself, so I met Ron at his hotel to guide him onto the fort and get his vehicle pass so he could drive to the lanes.  At the Main Gate,  Ron was strip-searched and no non-natural explosives were found on his person, so he was allowed to pass through security and proceed to the bowling center.  (No, that's not SOP, but I think the guard kinda took a shining to Ron and I think his last name was Smith).

After Ron got his camera and computer set up and after we had thrown a few shots to loosen up, he had all of us bowl one at a time while he recorded us from the back and side.  For some members of the class, this was their first time actually seeing what they looked like while bowling.  It was almost enough to make them quit.   Then, he reviewed the shots with each of us and concentrated on one or two things that he thought would benefit us the most and that could be corrected in the short time he had to work with us.

I was quite impressed at how he spotted the problem areas in each bowler quite quickly and worked on those. Then it was my turn and after reviewing my video, he said there wasn't much that he could do for me.    Actually, he saw my problem area right away and it is something that I have been trying to correct but without much progress.  I am a spinner or at least, a very low tracker, so he decided that would be what we would concentrate on.  I spent the entire day standing at the foul line and trying to release the ball without any spin.  Trying is not the same as being successful but I have cut down on the spin and am seeing more revs when I release the ball correctly.  I hope tomorrow that I will be allowed to use my normal approach.  I found out that just by standing at the foul line and bowling, I did not get tired, so this is something I will keep in mind the next time I have to bowl a long format tournament.

Tomorrow we will continue our lessons but already, after only one day of working with us, Ron's hair looks grayer.  Or maybe it is because he is thinking about having to go through security again.   Sunday is body cavity search day.

Bowlingbrian,
The lanes are reserved for 1 PM. I will be there before that. I will stay until no one else wants lessons or they take the lanes away. If you want lessons after work and they have lanes let me know what time.
I will actually drive up to Phx Monday night but I am not sure yet what time I will be there. If anyone wants to work on Monday night I may be able to do that if we have lanes. I will post tomorrow night a good guess what time I will hit town on Monday.
Bowl great everyone!!

If you have the chance to be coached by Ron, I highly recommend you try it.  He has a good eye for spotting a problem area and the patience and skill to work you through it.

Good news.  We almost lost Ron to the military way of life until he saw the standard haircut and realized what he would look like with it.  The military's loss is bowling's gain.

Ron - thanks for all of the help.

I would also highly recommend Ron as a coach, regardless of your current skill level.  Ron is easy-going and knowledgable about the physics of game.  He was able to help me in some ways where other coaches have failed with different visualization techniques and practice methods.  "Just go for a walk", what a concept, and it works!

Dale - keep up the good work, you've got great potential

Sorry I missed you Ron!

I didn't get out of work until 10:00p that day due to some issues.

I might be headed your direction later this year/early next.

I'll keep you posted.
