on a high scoring THS, i would play a hook at the opposite corner. because the oil distance and volume is greater over the middle, going cross alley at the opposite corner will give you a similar reaction to your strile ball, as the backend will still be fresh, and the middle of the lane will hold the ball until it reaches the back and makes its turn. you will again have hold area, so a pull to the left of a few boards shouldnt hurt, and the friction from the reactive ball will give it a chance to get over incase you push the ball right. unless you are extremely accurate, using a plastic ball will probably leave you at a disadvantage, especially on a high scoring condition.
on a sport condition, i would say the complete opposite. the plastic ball takes out every variable bowling can offer, leaving you with the same hand release and ball reaction every time. if you are accurate, like i said, this will the best way to go. taking the oil pattern out of play is a huge advantage, but only if you are able to make your spares.
