Pin CG position

Just rec'd my Infinite Theory and noticed the pin is at 0.1. Is this ok? I've always had pin in the 2.0-3.5 range. I've never seen it like this.

It depends on what you want the ball for and to do.

What is your PAP, speed, rev etc, and what is the top weight of the new ball

 

With that info given you should get some worthwhile replies.

The low pin distance limits you on drilling options, but it must not be a bad thing. It depends on what you want to do with the ball. With 0-1" pin, the CG is very close to the pin, which means that the internal weight is rather evenly distributed and the core is pretty much in the center of the ball. You will probably be forced to keep the pin rather low, under the fingers, to keep statics legal. The overall reaction will be a tad smoother than with a long pin ball - it is IMO a good basis for an arcing/control setup.

If I'm not mistaken, but the Infinite Theory is a Asymetrical core so the CG has no influence on the overall reaction of the ball.  All the CG will tell you is what is needed to get the ball legal after you drill it.  Pretty much means if you want to drill it with the pin above your fingers..you will have to drill the fingers deeper then normal..but thats nothing.  Really just depends on how much top weight the ball came with to get an idea of how deep you have to go with the fingers.  I think you can pretty much drill this any way you want.

To follow up on what you said, do long pin (4-5" range) balls typically promote length? I've drilled a few long pin balls with the CG both in and out of line and i've been seeing a better reaction on the lane. I have a very high track, so length is sometimes hard to come by, but I'd never considered it to be a general trait of long pin vs short pin equipment.

Well I talked to a few at bowling tonight including two people who drill balls and right away they said that I shouldn't order on line because of the "flawed" balls so this 0.1 is no good. If I was a big cranker then I could probably make it work but I'm more of a tweener/full roller. As far as ordering on line...I will continue to do so as I've gotten over 30 balls on line and NEVER had a problem. Good thing is the proshop will replace for me.

Some people are really agaisnt ordering online, so their opinions may be biased when they speak to you about it.  Ordering online does not mean you will get "flawed" balls, and online stores usually let you request pin positions.
 
And actually, in my opinion, shorter pin is BETTER of straighter players over crankers, as it usually means you need to put the pin under the fingers instead of allowing you to put it over, which is better for lower rev players.
 
A pin in ball with an asymmetric core will work fine for you.  Keep the pin below your fingers and put pretty much any length of pin you want from 2.5-5.5 from PAP and you will have no problems with weights, and put the MB wherever you want.

Ok then. My top wt is 2.53. I haven't talked to my driller yet so with this as a top wt will it work. Like I said earlier I'm not a big cranker just a tweener and my avg is 200+.
