Exciting Night for a Fellow Bowler

Tonight in league, one of my teammates.  The "old man" of our team. (We're all in our early 20's, he's 45ish) Shot his first career 700 series!  

He started off with a 220 followed by a 216....anytime he's ever gone into the 3rd game with anything higher than 470 he always chokes it off.  It's like he goes brain dead and when he should make a move, he just sticks with what was working and ends up shooting horribly.

Tonight I don't think 700 even crossed his mind.  He starts the 3rd game with a stone 10 and misses it.  He then throws the next 10 strikes in a row before leaving another solid 10 pin and shoots 278 for a 714 series.  On top of that his 278 is his highest game EVER.  

He was so close to his first honor score (11 in a row) yet he didn't even know it.  I said oh man you could have had your first honor score..and he said, for what? LOL.  

He had such a HUGE smile on his face about his 700.....

Now I remember why it is that I bowl.  I remember my first 200 game, 300 game, 500, 600, 700, 750 series and how great it felt.

It is an incredible feeling.  Most of the "house shots are too easy" crowd forget that they ever felt that way and just bitca about the four people who shot 300 tonight in their league, not caring that two of them had never done it before and may never do it again.

Way to go, old man.

Spider ball .. my thoughts on reading this .. this old guy (45 .. I'm 75) is VERY FORTUNATE to have a friend like you! You appear very HAPPY FOR HIM .. what more can a friend ask! Thanks for sharing!

It is always fun to see someone who has toiled at the game reach a new milestone and be genuinely excited about it.

BAH!! I just turned 61.

BTW, it's great to see someone excited about the game.  Sometimes we get a bit too blase about it so seeing someong excited is pretty neat.

Congrats to your teammate on his personal milestones.  High game and high Series in one night, he must have been smiling ear-to-ear for the rest of the night.

It is good to see someone appreciate the efforts and achievements of a teammate.  I am always happy when a teammate of mine does exceptionally well, hitting milestones and/or award scores. I just hope I bowl well enough for us to get the win, (usually I do bowl well, feeding off their excitement levels) it makes it even more exciting for them when victories come with their great bowling.

I think the only thing that would have topped off the night for him would have been if he won the progressive mystery pot. (They called a score of 131, can you say carry over?)  

I knew it was only a matter of time before he shot the 700.  I've known him now for three years, and he's a ton of fun to have on the team, and he's been huge for us the past 3 years coming up with timely strings.

He kicked my butt  I only shot 679.

Bowling is a great participation sport.  We can rejoice with others' success and "feel their pain" when they struggle.  We've all been there.

I am glad that I bowl in a house that everyone gets excited when someone bowls good.  I have seen my wife bowl her first ever league 200 this month and missed her first ever 500 series because I could not make it there to bowl that night.  They make sure to announce these milestones for everyone to hear.  She was happy as she could be those nights as with everyone there.  This is what I love about this sport, like laneman said, "Bowling is a great participation sport. We can rejoice with others' success and "feel their pain" when they struggle. We've all been there."

It is very refreshing to see that happen...We had a very simaliar thing happen in our 22 team mens league last night.  We have a new team this year and the high average on the team is 161.  Second bowler on the team last night the 161 bowler throws his first 300...tell you what, I have never seen so many people stand around and clap for a 300.  Must have been 50 people watching the 10th frame.  Brooklyn on the 12th but carried.  Beautiful thing.  the sad part of this is in game 2 we had another bowler throw the first 11 and nobody even new it because he allready had 2 300s this year.  He missed and shot 297.
