How would YOU play these patterns?
« on: May 27, 2011, 07:15:10 AM »
I thought this could be an interesting topic.
How would you attack these patterns?
Where would you play?
what ball?layout?surface?
They will be on wood with a fresh screen and coat having been done.

Are these Kegel programs or are these "house originals"?  I liked a 17-12 look on the first pattern and immediately threw up when I saw the second one.  Some of the other patterns look interesting but as for where you'd play, I'd utilize the Eugene McCune method of lane play unless I had a LOT of lane play on these patterns.

Fortunately most of them are really long oil, so the option of playing in and tight exists.

In general, picking a solid steady ball and not sending the ball right looks like a decent option.

Take the rule of 31.  Oil distance - 31 = ideal breakpoint with the limit being 15 board.  Playing over 20-25 out to 14-15 is probably all you have and it probably would do the job of keeping you out of trouble.

For the 30', I'd try the ditch and if that doesn't work, go back to that same deep/tight strategy with urethane or dull plastic to control the backends.

The fact that the centre is wood will make the patterns potentially scoreable.  If there is a grooved out track area just work with that and see what you can do.  I bowled on a 45' WTBA pattern last night on wood and used a Urethane Avalanche at 800 grit up 9 and inched in, not having a game under deuce just because of the beat up surface giving me some help

All but one of these patterns is longer in length. Therefore, the longer ones would suggest an inside line and not crossing many boards either. The 30' pattern may indeed benefit from Eugene McCune-type ball speed------barring that, an outside line using urethane or plastic may be the best answer.

They are house originals and as for the surface they had a screen and coat last Wednesday. With the fressh surface Highway to Hell was hooking quite a bit more than normal tonight. The patterns listed are from the King of the hill series and are also going to be used the even weeks in our summer league.
