Title: pin up / down

this may be a dumb question, but i want some opinions on pin up and pin down.
please chime in with your thoughts.

i was wondering if you drilled 1 ball with:
4 1/2", pin up, 75*, 2000 abralon

and another one

5", pin down, 75*, 2000 abralon,

would you get a similar reaction? i thought that maybe since the pin distance had enough difference, that the pin above would possibly read like the pin down, since the pin up was closer to the pap.

It really depends on how far up or down.

Generally, the closer the pin is to the grip center the smoother/slower the ball is going to come off the spot. Closer to your VAL will make it come off the spot snappier/faster.

I would guess that the longer and lower pin would give you a smoother overall hook shape.  The stronger higher pin would read the dry a little harder.  On flatter patterns, it might be a good 1-2 punch as the transition occurs, provided you have the space in your bag.  On a house shot, you probably wouldn't be able to tell much.  Unless of course, you're talking about my BW Bite, in which case moving the pin 3/4" would make roughly a 20 board difference.*
