pinky finger
« on: April 03, 2011, 10:31:36 PM »
I have noticed some bowlers put their pinky finger next to the ring finger and some spread it away from the ring finger...does this make a difference in ball roll, control, or both???

I've found that keeping my pinky finger close to my ring finger or tucking it helps me put more hand in the ball when I need it. Spreading it away has the opposite result.

A lot of the time I'll start a night with my pinky finger tucked and then un-tuck it after the lanes transition instead of moving my feet right away to get the ball to the pocket.

so basically what you're saying is close in it starts the ball sooner...spread out it gets the ball down the lane

Ron Clifton (Magic Carpet) has a good article on finger positions in the hints on his website (link below).  The title is Finger Dancing.  --  JohnP

I find and have always been told that tucking the pinky finger or having it close to the ring finger increases sideroll because it allows you to come around the side of the ball easier.  Having the pinky out prevents you from getting around the ball as much creating less sideroll and less backend reaction
