rolling out
« on: August 01, 2011, 03:29:35 AM »
I'm amazed on how WRW can play the outside part of the lane on many conditions, and at times with the same ball, maybe with the same drill too, and still take out the corners.  How does WRW keep the ball from rolling out? Is it his acceleration at the point of release that keeps his ball from rolling out?  Being a straight player myself, I struggle with balls that are D.O.A. on surfaces that can get really dry. The covers that I've been using lately are either my entry level or urethane balls during my summer league and MC travel league.

When the heads are gone, I resort to lofting if I want to stay outside or the track area to carry the corners (or the 5 pin.) Moving inside is another option, but I just want to know how does WRW keeps his ball rolling out playing out. It's truly amazing how this guy does it.

1. When he plays outside, he does not bowl on the dry.
2. He almost always uses a very strong, early rolling ball, esp. when he's playing outside.
3. When it is dry for him, he is playing deep inside with everyone else in the PBA.

He doesn't bowl outside on the dry-ish lanes we often see in 2nd shift leagues or in house where the owner or manager doesn't want to spend a penny on maintenance.

He can play the 5th or 6th arrow if he wants to or if he thinks he needs to. You just don't see that on TV where, most of the time, they bowl on fresh medium to heavy oil.

What you see happen on sport conditions here just doesn't really apply to house shots most of the time, because even on short sport patterns, there's usually a higher volume of oil, and even on sport patterns that do have lighter volumes of oil, they're still usually much slicker than the area outside of the 10 board on a house shot. I am a lower rev, speed dominant guy with moderate axis rotation and tilt at best, but even I cannot play right up the 1st arrow or right of it on a house shot pretty much anywhere I go. A couple weeks ago I went straight up the 3 board with a Virtual Gravity Nano sanded to 4000 on the 35 foot Team USA Beijing pattern to throw the front 8 because there was so much oil in the heads that 1) carrydown became an issue, and 2) weaker cover balls and shiny equipment skidded too far and left corner pins. Meanwhile, I tried to play the same line on the house shot in practice with a pancake core plastic ball and left a split because even that hooked too much.

WRW does it with forward roll and loft.

Don't believe in the Uzi, it just went off in my hand.  I, I believe in love.
