Is it Just Me??
« on: April 19, 2005, 02:07:46 PM »
I was doing some regular clean up on my equipment today, and it got me thinking about all the new balls that come out. I can't seem to find a new ball that works for me. To make my point a little clearer, here is my current arsenal:
Danger Zone HPD
Original Rock on
EMB XF
White dot

I have drilled alot of new stuff in the last year or so, and i dont like any of it. I dont mean to bash new stuff as it works for most of you but does anyone else have my problem?

What doesn't work and where are you throwing Mike? You statements are a little to broad brush to answer correctly. Weren't you a big Columbia guy not to long ago. You throwing at Hometown or Clifton Park?

Most newer balls are technilogical upgrades of balls that have already been released, much like all other sports equipment. The shells and weight blocks are constantly being tweaked for "better" performance. Some bowlers have a hard time replacing "old faithful", I've even got a couple that I refuse to retire. In the Easter Sr. High Roller in Vegas, in the last day of matchplay finals, we started with over 100 bowlers and I made it to the top 8,..only to get thrashed by a guy using a very old original urethane Blue Hammer. Not every new ball is a great ball for everyone, believe me, read some of the reviews.
Different conditions across the country, coupled with everyones individual variables makes pleasing all the people all the time almost impossible. As a ball company staff member, I have my favorites in our line,..and I have the ones that don't seem to work as well for me,...but another bowler my have the opposite opinion,..that's why there are so many to choose from. What I tell perspective buyers is "do your research",..find out the specs that best fit your game, and the drilling patterns you best like,..then talk to your pro shop guy for his opinion,....jim

Im just not sure how to explain my problem any more than that. I have drilled a bully, hot rod hybrid, fear factor and a couple of others. It just seems like the reactions dont work for me. I do have alot of hand, but i've been practicing at going straighter and thats when the problems started with reactions. Any more info or questions are welcomed. Thanks all.

So when you tried going straighter you didn't like the reactions? When you went from looping the lane to going straighter in trajectory did your PAP change?, axis rotation change? Speed? Did either of the two houses change pattern which made you go straighter? What don't you like about the reaction yo received from the newer balls? (to long, no backend, checking early??)

The house i bowl in,clifton park bowl, got a new lane machine this year. They tried to make the shot easier by walling em up, but they overdid it. It is so over under that the only place to play is right in the track. So naturally everyone plays there and it changes fast. I have tried lots of differnt stuff but the reaction is so over under it makes the shot harder, not easier.  My roll has changed when i go straight as i come up the back of the ball more. I need to get a smoother reaction somewhere. Any suggestions(layouts, surfaces or balls)? Any help is welcome. Thanks
