Manually running brackets?
« on: March 08, 2005, 06:49:59 AM »
Hey everyone,

Don't have bracket software, still want to run them for a tournament. How do I accomplish this? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure I can figure it out, but if some of you have done this before, or just know a great deal about how brackets are set up, it will save me considerable time and annoyance. Thanks in advance for the help.

get 8 playing cards (A-8) to determine position (1-8).  set bracket up, fill in names.  run bracket from there

The most efficient way is to have pre-printed brackets.  In other words, have Bracket 1 with the following format...

1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5

Bracket 2 could be this way...

1 vs. 7
2 vs. 8
3 vs. 5
4 vs. 6

Just make up a whole bunch of different scenarios like that.  So say you have 30 sheets printed up with many different scenarios, you just draw a few sheets out and use those, but do not look at the front.  Keep them tunred face down, and when people sign up, ask them to pick a number 1-8 for each bracket.

Have them draw the cards to decide which bracket they are signing up for.  When one bracket is filled, take that card out of the pile.  This is probably the most fair way to work it all out.

I ran 'em for a year, by hand.  As the money was paid in the person drew a card for their bracket position and I entered their name on the appropriate line.  It got to be a bit much when I got up to 10 brackets a night, but it is doable that way.
