Playing the outside angle
« on: January 08, 2005, 11:51:12 AM »
I see pros on tv playing the outside angle. I try playing this part of the lane on a house shot with no success. It doesn't matter what ball I use, once it hits the dry part of the lane it hooks way left. Most of the time it misses the head pin, at best i get a brooklyn strike out of it.  I am letting the ball roll off my fingers clean w/ no side rotation.

What should I do?

Normally I stand left(not very descriptive or technical), and aim for the 17th board or 18th board. I don't know where the ball breaks before it comes back.  I don't throw with a lot of revs, and have medium ball speed.  I am comfortable playing between 3rd and 4th arrows. I think lane conditions and equipment have dictated where I am able to play. or have they?

thank you

XXXL is plastic, with the diamond core - not urethane. Hits like urethane, though...

I'm glad to see the pros playing that line. When I first started, I didn't have alot of hook to cover alot of boards, so that's the line I learned on and still play most of the time.

For me, the lanes dictate where I throw. Seems like every day they change...BIG Time ! It takes me a few shots to figure them out, but my best advice, unless you are moving to leagues where they rotate, stick with what works for you. Try a new stance, delivery, more hand, but only to see IF one of those things will fit into YOUR game. I'll never make Pros, but I think you have to be happy with your game. Sure , find a few new wrinkles, but don't go so far out there thast you are unhappy with your game and hate to go bowling, to me that's not the way to go. my 2 cents worth.
