Ball Certification
« on: March 29, 2005, 11:28:32 PM »
Hey guys I have a big problem. Last night in league I shot my first 299. Well as you guys know, the secretary has to write down the serial number off the ball you used, and there is were my problem begins. Until last night, I didn't realize that the pro-shop that drilled my ball, drilled a counter balance hole in my serial number totally eliminating the last number! Am I right in thinking that ABC will not recognize my honor score or is there anything that I can do?

Thanks

Tim Watson

Yes the pro shop you bought it from will have it on his invoices and can always check with the supplier for the serial No.

The award application should say something along the lines of serial number (if legible).  Don't fret about it.  I filled out a 299 award form for a bowler on my league earlier this season.  He shot the 299 with a Columbia test ball that didn't have a serial number at all, and there was no question.  I had the ring to present to him within three weeks of submitting the application.

Congrats on some great shooting!

isnt reporting the ball optional? i thought as long as the secretary signed off on it and there are scoring records to back it up it was all good.

Serial Number isn't important.  Just put the brand and ball name down and ABC can see that the ball is approved for use.

There should be a record of the number at the pro shop. Did you buy the ball there?

I bought this ball 2 years ago when I lived in California. Uncle Sam has since relocated me to Texas. I tried calling the guy that drilled it but no luck.

There is a guy here with a Columbia PowerTorq that has no logos left on the ball. He had even resurfaced the serial number off. The pro shop where he had it drilled had the serial number written down but the local league secretary made him put the serial number back in the ball before he would file the honor score paperwork.

Guess it all boils down to how strict your locals are.
