Was messing around today measuring ball speed...
« on: May 24, 2005, 11:27:53 AM »
using a stopwatch (see Storm's website for details...under Storm Tips).  At one point I rolled eight in a row and every shot was timed between 2.60 and 2.62 seconds (15.6-15.7 mph).  The shot that broke the string was measured at 2.55 but still hit the pocket (a little late) leaving a 10-pin.

Something I did find very interesting...by the fourth and fifth games my times were in the low 2.4 second range (higher ball speed, around 17 mph) but strikes and consistency were hard to come by.  When I "slowed" myself back down to where my ball was being timed around the 2.60 second range...the strikes returned.

I thought this might interest some folks...the numbers geeks (like me) anyway.  Has anyone else done this and found a speed where their ball reaction and results seemed to "max out"???

Haven't really measured all of my shots for an extended period of time, but I have noticed that when I purposely try to throw faster (higher push away and higher back swing) that I miss the pocket horribly.  I don't think I have the revs to take advantage of higher speeds.
