Hi all this is my first post on this awesome site. Ok here is my question will a ball that is plugged and re drilled react the same as a ball that is nib then drilled. I know this might be a basic question but I would like to hear your opinions I want to try different equipment without spending a mortgage payment. So if I buy a low game used ball and have it drilled for me will it act the same as if I bought the same ball new

IMO balls that are plugged and re-drilled can be just as good as brand new balls as long as the person plugging and re-drilling the ball is competent and the ball is in good condition. When I was a youth bowler most of my balls were used, and as an adult when I'm wanting to try something out that has piqued my interest and I find one used I never hesitate to get it and use it.

There is an article in Bowling this Month magazine about this topic. In their estimation, even after several plugging, and redrills, the numbers for the ball change VERY little.

A lot depends on the ball its self.
Usually, a symmetric ball only needs to be weighed out in order to tell exactly where the topweight ends up after plugging, and how much of it there is. Once this is done, you can drill it accordingly.
On an asymmetric however, the MB marking may not be true after a plug job, and the ball probably should be spun on a device called a Determinator to verify the true MB location before you re-drill. Once you know the true MB location AND the topweight location and amount, you can re-drill it with confidence.
The one, and ONLY, 800 series I ever shot, was shot with a used ball that I had plugged, then it had a small crack start (that I had drilled out and plugged as well). Two months later, I shot 812 with the thing.
Long story made shorter, yes, plugged stuff is fine, as long as it is done by a shop that knows what they're doing, and cares about quality.

Thank you guys so much for the info. I just got a deadly aim less than 20 games owned by my proshop owner. I asked him the same question he had the same answer I just need some other reassurance even though I trust him I'm a newbie lol
