Bowler's Dream Camp - Day 1
« on: June 20, 2008, 11:46:53 AM »
Well I am one of the lucky 14 people who signed up for this once in a lifetime camp.

14 people showed up to get hands on help battling the PBA patterns from Chris Barnes, Doug Kent, Tommy Jones, Jason Couch, Tony Reyes and ball/layout help from Dino Castillo.

Today's two lectures were Tony Reyes on Cheetah and Jason Couch on Viper. We spent about an hour for each pattern in the classroom going over theories that each player has on attacking the pattern and then we went out to the lanes to spend 2 hours for each pattern with one player helping us out for 2 hours each session.

Here's what I have gathered from the experience so far on Cheetah and Viper. Keep in mind that these are the things that I have gathered with respects to my game and how I will best attack the pattern.

Cheetah: Get a strong cover/weak layout ball with surface and try to roll up the back of the ball, getting the ball to begin hooking at about 30ft (playing the breakpoint at 1,2,3 board), controlling the break point trying to find a ball reaction that doesnt change direction much.

Viper: Strong cover/stable layouts with a bit less surface playing up 5, 6, 7 board was the best reaction for me to start. Once the transition hit, the moves were getting my feet left and targeting the same boards down lane. Going to balls that will get more length and have more backend can be an option as the angles through the front of the lane get more steep.

Tomorrow's lectures are Doug Kent on Scorpion and Chris Barnes on Shark. Check back later for more updates!!
