Let me start:
08/31/2002 (My 18th birthday) My girlfriend said that to celebrate we could go and play pool with some friends, the pool was in the house I bowl now... I said, I want to play bowling, not pool, so, that was the first time... The first time I threw a bowling ball.. a 12 lb. House Ball.. Love at first sight... On december that year I bought my first ball (My loved V2 Pearl) and played my first league on march 2003 (I could be Jan 2003, But if you don't know, in Venezuela (my country) since december 2002 'till february 2003 there was a national job strike and almost everything was closed...) So I had the ball undrilled for almost 4 months in my house ....

Well thats my personal start with COOLEST sport on earth... Hope you post yours...

It all started last year in may....I heard two of my friends talking about doing the summer league, and naturally i wanted to join....of course i did, and used plastic crap, averaging in the 120s and rolling several *good* games, including a 188.  I've been hooked ever since.  Of course, they still suck, since they are the TLB who bought a ball and know nothing about the sport, and haven't progressed at all, in fact, one doesn't want to use his plastic ball, he'd rather use his strike ball, with his slow speed, to try and make 1/20 ten pins....and the other, sometimes will use his spare ball for his first shots, and attempt his spares with his blade reactive....like i said, they're idiots......

Funny story.  One time I asked my friend, "Hey, how is your ball drilled up?"  He stared at me all confused, and finally replied, "Well, finger tip."  Needless to say, I laughed my @ss off.

Hey, everyone else has it too!

I was 12 years old. My father liked it, the game and the accompanyng drinking. What was not to like?  My first game was a 62, but I thought you added each frame the next, instead of each frame's number being the accumulated total. In my first game I thought I had a great score, .... until he told me what my actual score was.

Been trying to do better ever since. not so succesful.

my best friend and some guys from work were bowling at an AMF house in the Dollar Mania thing. i went one week and man, i am a fiend for competition.

i joined a league shortly after that, in august. i have gone from a 107 average in july, to a 132 average in my first mini-league, the 158 starting average in my fall league to the 172 average i hold now. its been a fast 9 months.

I was seven or eight years old, and there was a nice young couple volunteering their time to give bowling instructions to children.  I was hooked after the first day.  It was at Bedford Bowl, across the street from what was once Ebbetts Field.

When I was about 8 or so, my parents would take me to league with them.  In the beginning, they would give me quarters to play pool with.  Well, by the end of the season I started getting good enough at pool that they'd quit giving me quarters by the second game.  SO, one night I asked if I could bowl on the open lane instead (at $.75 per game) and here I am...  That was the last year they bowled league until they bought the place 4 yrs later.  Therefore, in my profile I list that I started at age 12, since that's when I began bowling on a regular basis.

1992 I was in a military class and for graduation party the class decided to go bowling. I never bowled my entire family did but I didn't. Well I bowled a 67! Everyone laughed because I was the most athletic of the group. The next game I shot 140 and beat them all.
   Later that day I saw a guy in the center hooking the ball and I asked him how he did it. "You wont understand it's very complex" Well I was insulted and soon after went on leave for 30 days and my Dad and I bowled for a whole month. 5 months later won a local handicaped tourney for 500.00 and used it for Dick Ritger scholl the rest is history.
