Possible NYC area get together???

I was wondering if anyone from the site lived around/near/on staten island, and may be interested in getting together at a local center in New Jersey to have a fun tourney or just bowl for a day.  Let me know if anyone is interested...my friend V12 lives near me, so it would be fun to meet some of the guys/gals from the site.  reply!!!

ill drive vin...or else it would be illegal.  anyone interested, let me know and we can set it up for sometime in august.  there are some places right over the bridge near me in jersey that are very well maintained and cheap to bowl, and i also wouldnt mind driving a few more miles if its too far away for some people.

im hoping to get more responses...sir lefty i have bowled at majestic, but wasnt very impressed...i happen to like jersey lanes and linden lanes, which are closer to the goethels bridge, and they would be $2.00 per game at most(jersey is only $1.50 before noon)...they also always have oil down, although linden is much tougher than jersey.  the location really isnt a factor until we can figure out exactly who is going.  there are plenty of houses around here that are well worth bowling in.

I know this is SHORT NOTICE but I'll be in NY (Long Island) the 1st week of AUGUST .. I might be able to SNEAK away (I'll have my wife with me) for a couple of hours .. keep posting on dates .. I'll be watching!

Joe, im not sure of a date yet, as were still trying to get as many responses as possible.  ill be leaving for vegas august 5th to bowl in the JBT Las Vegas Open, but if you will be there before the 5th it may be possible.  we were looking to bowl in jersey, probably no more than 10 minutes away from either the goethels or outerbridges in staten island.  that may be a long trip for you depending on where you will be in LI, but let me know and we can see.  if you can get to staten island, i can drive us over the bridge so you can leave your car near my house.  keep posting!

The subject of this post says NYC.  Did Jersey just become the sixth borough? Or is Staten Island now a suburb of Newark?

I'd be more interested in a get-together in Queens or Long Island, but these things never seem to come together.

Wish I could shoot down from Buffalo/Niagara Falls, but still not cleared to bowl from the heart attack, and will be busy with work when I return in a wekk or two.

I do get down there usually once a summer/fall, so maybe in the future.

Hope you can all get together.

HOTWIRE .. I've been fortunate to join some BR members at get together in NC where we had fantastic times.

I know you are doing this on a spur-of-the-moment type thing .. but .. with the right plans this could be a LOT OF FUN. If you could get hold of the PRO SHOP in the Center you are talking about and try to arrange a DEMO DAYS .. that would get some attention. Maybe a mini tournament where BR members can bowl against each other right after the DEMO DAYS.

This kind of thinking would get the type response you are looking for! Tough job .. wish you luck .. remember the first effort MIGHT FAIL .. but you'll never know unless you TRY!

Majestic is no fun in the Summer. You never know when they are going to oil and it's always light, IF they do. Better bring your lightest oil resin ball AND a plastic ball or bring some speed.

Just about 1 mile up the road, along Rt 9, is Woodbridge Lanes, which generally takes better care of their lanes, but again I don't know when they oil. Linden and Jersey lanes can be hard to locate (get a map from mapquest.com). Majestic's saving grace is that it's very easy to get to, located right off Rt 9, about 2-3 miles from the Outerbridge Crossing (SI to NJ, Rt 440).


I'd join but I work full time on Fridays and Saturdays, and Sundays must be spent with the family. Sorry.

well it seems like some people are interested...but that demo day idea i think will be too hard to get off the ground soon enough to accommodate the dates i was looking to do this.  im leaving august 5th, so it either needs to be before i go or sometime after i get back, but i may be working by then and i wont know my schedule.  LINDEN AND JERSEY LANES are extremely easy to get to, so dont be fooled by charlest...so far it looks like just sir lefty and bob7.  if anyone else is interested, please let me know soon so maybe we can set this thing up!  THE BEST DATES FOR ME WOULD BE THIS COMING THURSDAY AND FRIDAY(29TH AND 30TH), AND NEXT MODAY AND TUESDAY(2ND AND 3RD).  

as for seadrives comments, i have bowled in jerset the past two years and realized how much more competitive it is than on staten island.  the open play is cheaper, and the centers actually care about maintaining the lanes.  staten island bowling is an absolute joke.  

seadrive  - if you can somehow get to staten island, i can drive us the rest of the way.

staten island is still nicer than the other boroughs, even though its becoming overcrowded with both people and traffic.  the bowling aspect of it used to be unbelievable, but now its a joke.  country lanes has what i call a cult following, in that people who should be averaging 180 go there and average 220, and never bowl anywhere else because they wouldnt know what hit them.  they could probably make some kind of sci-fi movie out of that place.  and now we have showplace bowling back, but they probably wont be open for more than a year, because the management has never bowled and knows nothing about the sport, along with $5.00+ per game prices.  oh yeah, they dont know what oiling the lanes is either.  or how to fix them, which comes in handy when you have amf equipment.

Hey, guy. Not funny.

I wasn't trying to fool anyone. I've lived in NJ for 25+ years. I got lost the first time trying to find them both and I have a decent sense of direction. All I'm suggesting is what I ALWAYS do: print off the map and directions from www.mapquest.com, just so you do NOT get lost. It's actually not a lot of work ...

charlest, i just didnt want people to get turned off if we decided to bowl at one of those houses because they felt they would get lost.  i can put the directions up here for anyone that needs them.  there are more than one way to get to both of those houses.  i wasnt trying to be funny...just informative.
