Post Your Axis
« on: February 03, 2004, 06:37:37 PM »
Last night I re-taped a DT Barrage with my new thumb pitches to locate my PAP.  It took a few attempts but I finally got a lock on it. It appears my axis is 5-5/8 over and abuot 1/8th up.  Wow, that's a lot I think.

I drilled up an Anomaly with the pin over and just right of between my fingers, that places the pin at almost 6" away from my axis.  The ball goes loooong and completely lays off on the backend, considering what this ball is designed to do.  I have another one I'm going to drill with the pin about 4.5" from my PAP.  That one will be a LOT stronger.  Yay for me!

So... do you know your PAP?

Quote from: king of the mill
pap only tells you where a point equidistant from a players track is in relation to his grips center.

Yes, but the purpose of it is to help you correctly payout your equipment.  I hear so many people tell me to drill a ball with the pin over my ring finger and the cg in my center grip, like theirs is, and I will strike for days.  Uh huh.  I ask them where their PAP is and they look at me like I have two heads.

You see, a ball drilled with the pin over the ring finger for a bowler with a PAP 4-3/4 straight over is NOT the same thing for me with the PAP almost 5-3/4 over.  In fact, they are very different.  The ball doesn't care where your fingers are drilled, only where the ball is touching the lane... and you know that by where your PAP is.

So that's why it's important to know your PAP!

Last time i checked i think it was 4 3/8> and 1/2^ i think.

I've got a throttle-R with the Pin below my middle finger and Cg about 3 1/2 inches from my pap with a weight hole 4 inches over from my center of grip.

when anyone looks at the ball they do in fact give me this look like i have two heads as well.

5" over and 1 5/8" up.  My track almost clips the thumbhole, but winds up 2-3" from my middle finger.

My ball driller says that indicates that I get out of the ball okay, but I start to turn it too early.

Would you guys agree?

What Tony said. With my PAP being so high above the grip midline, a 4x4 drilling for me looks like a 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 for most people.

Very similar to the last two guys--a fellow member of the Large Up Coordinate Club.

5 1/16 over by 1 1/8 up

I can put a pin just over, just under, or IN my ring finger hole and it is just about 4 inches from my PAP in all of those cases.  The over the ring finger drilling is a little snappier than the under the ring finger drilling, which is smoother.

I'd be interested to hear what king of the mill or any other knowledgeable folks can tell us about the significance, effects, and plus or minus characteristics of having a large up coordinate to one's PAP.

5-1/4 over and 1-5/16 up.

ba,
While my Anamoly (pin 5" from my axis) doesn't totally lay off on the backend (i.e. it still hits), it is smooth on fresh backends, where much of my stuff will snap left off the end of the pattern.  The surface is 500 grit Abralon, as prescribed by Ebonite's surface preparation guide that they include with their high-end balls these days.  I'm sure the lack of polish contributes to the tamer reaction off the end of the pattern.

Anyway, I'd be curious to know how your other one reacts after you drill it.
