STUPID 8 PIN!!!
« on: March 01, 2005, 04:26:15 PM »
First game tonight - toughest house I bowl league in...

Front 9. All but one dead flush.
Get up - throw the 10th. Dead Flush. Carry.
11th - dead flush. STUPID 8 pin stood up!!!
289.

I think the entire league must have seen me stone that 8. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

But I was using my newly laid out Inferno!!!

Congrats Mumzie- what was your series for the night if I might ask? And were you able to stay with the Inferno all night long?

Yeah, I've left some ringin' nines in situations like that - nothing to kill a tenth frame with a perfect game going, but I HAVE had TWO ringing nines back to back keep me from a perfect game.

But just to make sure - you drove the 5 straight back, right?  cuz if not and you slid the 5 by the 8, feel lucky that you didn't embarrass yourself in front of the whole house and nearly leave the 8-10

Mumzie, it could have been worse... it could have been on the 12th ball

I just had a night of stone 8's myself. I left 3 of the durn things in the first 9 frames, then on the last ball of the game, I announced to everybody who would listen, that I was going to TRY to leave a stone 8. Result? I barely hit the head pin, scrambled a bunch of pins on the left side of the deck, and lo and behold... an 8 pin! Not a stoner like I announced, but everyone who heard my intentions was amused

Stone 8's last night, last week it was stone 9's. I wonder what I'll come up with next week?

NBC, I've done that this season! Front 9, mostly good shots. First ball in the tenth, tug it inside,  with not much on it: and lo, there was an 8-10, and it was not good (Even though I deserved it). My teammates couldn't believe it, and everbody else who saw it was speechless, especially the lower-to-intermediate avg. bowlers. Most of them thought I got screwed! Oh well, someday I'll get there again.

Hey mumz....Don't feel bad....same thing happened to me last week. I had the front 8. Threw a perfect shot..left a stone 8. Picked it and struck out for 279...it would have been my first 300....So believe me...I feel your pain...Nice shootin tho!

An 8 pin on the second ball in tenth cost me an 800 this year, ended with 795. Know how your feeling cause I crushed the rack. Had a 9 pin cost me another 800 this year also. Nothing worse than putting it there and getting the shaft. Wouldn't have minded if it was a 10 or a 4 pin where I knew I was just a bit off.

Well, looking at things the morning after - geeezzzz...
I must have thrown that 11th shot a hundred times in my sleep last night.

My series was not good. I started fishing after the 2nd frame of the second game, didn't listen to my "little voice" very well, and shot 171-197. Stupid mistake - I adjusted off a bad shot. GRRRR...

Well, tonight's another night.
and yes- it was a dead flush 8 pin - not a chance of an 8-10.

I think it's THE FUNNIEST THING to watch someone (especially a HIGHER average bowler) leave an 8-10 and just get hit-the-ball-return mad because they think the got the screw.
even when people leave a weak 8 like that and think they get screwed, i have to hold my tongue from saying "hey, at least it wasn't an 8-10"!!

Now when I leave an 8-10, something ain't right

Nice bowling Mumzie.  Sad to say that not all perfect games are 300's (and of course, not all 300's are perfect games).

So Mumz...does this mean your sig will be changing back to "I just wanna carry?"

Mumzie, it could have been worse... it could have been on the 12th ball

Been there, done that, got the ring to prove it.  I left a solid 8 for my first 299.

Ever leave a stone 7-9? I had two of them in one night!

A number of years back, I actually did it twice on consecutive nights...in different centers.  There was something else noteworthy about those consecutive nights, but I won't go into it here...

On edit:  I'm right-handed as well.

Sorry - if you're left handed, there's NO SUCH THING as a stone 7-9.  same thing as a right hander with the 8-10

FYI: Inverted 1 is a righty, so a solid 7-9 is believable.

I am also a righty, and I swear I left a stone 8-10 once. Old house, crappy racks, dead flush, powerful ball - solid 8-10. I attributed it to the weird racks at this house, but it was definitely a solid 8-10.
