Storm Ball Cracked in Half
« on: June 30, 2011, 12:26:29 PM »
My ball cracked 3/4 of the way around it.  It was just sitting in my floor in my room.  I was wondering if you think that Storm would warranty the ball.  I am not the original owner and I have no receipt.

It's probably like 3-4 years old.

These balls are a urethane base, and thus will never stop curing completely. The worst thing for a ball, once it has been drilled, is to let it sit idle for long periods at a time. Sometimes you will get lucky, but others you won't. The only 2 that I've ever had crack were stored on a shelf in my office at room temps.
Take them out every so often and throw them for a game or two. This helps keep the cover pliable and less susceptible to cracking.

You better turn balls that lay dormant around once a week - otherwise, the heavy core, the soft filler and the shell build tension due to gravity and singular weight pressure. Add a porous and thin cover, poorly bevelled holes or a huge Switch Grip hole, and the ball is prone to crack. Had this happen with an Ebonite ball (XXcel, maybe one year old. Popped suddenly, I heard it cracking in the room next door!).
