Hoinke 2009 - IF It Is Still Going
« on: July 18, 2008, 11:14:06 AM »
Last night Glen Hershberger and I bowled Rick Wunder's Petersen squad.  While waiting for the announcements of payouts, (he was collecting, I was just seeing who I supported ) he asked if I had ever bowled the Hoinke.  I had, but it has been a while.  The first time was with a few teams made from this site.

Anyhow, we are interested in putting together a team or two for next year.  We are looking at some time around July 17th.  We will be bowling Rick's Petersen squad July 16th and to minimize my traveling from CA, we'd like to work around that time.

If it is still being held and close to the same area and interested, no commitment at this time, let Glen or I know either by posting here or through PM.

TP, Just let me know, I'm about 20 minutes from there. That is assuming it really doesn't sell.

I will definitely keep you informed.  It is a long way off still, but I usually book my flights as soon as the window opens with Southwest.

The rumor is it's for sale. I've been getting E-mails saying it's not. Just depends who you talk to. I guess we'll see in the fall after the tournaments over.

there have been several stories in the local paper and on the news about it closing down in the future, but no definite date has been announced.

Thanks for the info, I will contact them and ask for a squad organizer packet for 2009.  Hopefully that will keep me in the loop with them regarding any changes or cancellation.

walley 3261 and stormed1 - I will keep you updated.

Kind of a shame if we thought about it a year too late.

i would think running a tournament like the hoinke would be making plenty of money for the bowling center stay open and somebody would want to be the proprietor to keep this going.... am i wrong on this?

Yes western is for sale and they already have someone trying to buy it and is planing on turning it into a strip mall. There is a artist painting on a site that depicts what they hope for it to look like. They have not decided on whether or not they are going to run the tournament in 09. as it stands not there is a deadline for the buyer that he must have tenets for the mall ready by December. If he does not  then the deal is negated and they will be back on the market.

If sold, is there a center that might be willing to take the tournament in?  If so, is it in the same area?

Are there any other large tournaments open to prety much anybody in the area that run in the summer?
