Practice
« on: January 01, 2004, 06:02:33 AM »
Just wondered how many out there practice? I used to practice a little when I was younger. I bowl three nights a week and sometimes tournaments on weekends. I don't have the time or money to practice.

I practice as often as possible. Maybe 6, 7, maybe even 8 times a week, if not more. But Im lucky in that I only pay 2 bux a game because they have league discounts. Plus I am friends with just about everyone there, and sometimes they will chop the prices a little for me.

I can't afford practice!  Open bowling in my home center is $2 per game, $2.50 on the weekends and that's the league bowler discount.  I wouldn't mind going from house to house for practice, but I'm not going to pay $3.75 per game for open bowling on dry lanes.  What I have done is throw my name out there to any and all league bowlers and if they call for a sub, that's my practice for the week.

Pork, Your local center isn't owned by John Sommer is it? Yeah the same John Sommer who owned the PWBA. I bowl in Rockford,IL. He owns most of the houses around here and some in IOWA. His prices are high here. 3.75 per game and there's no such thing as a league discount. I don't think I'd pay it if I could afford it.

You think 3.75 a game is bad?!?! TRY 4.50 A GAME! At my center its 4.50, yes four dollars and fifty cents! Luckily I get a league discount, 2 bux a game, plus, you know, I pull a string here and there get some free games and what not.

No freezeback, he doesn't own anything around here that I know of.  One of the best times to go practice here is on Friday mornings.  Of course, me and almost everyone in Cedar Rapids is at work on Friday mornings.  The lanes get oiled first thing for a seniors league and open bowling is $1.25 per game from 9 A.M. till noon.  That I can afford, but this $3.75 crap is nuts.  I went to a center when I first moved to town and asked how much open bowling was.  He told me $3.75 and I laughed and told him I wasn't interested.  I turned and started to walk away but turned and asked why the cost of lineage was so much.  He smiled and said that the owner needed to pay for the sound system and glow lights somehow.  That's sick!!!!

F#CK SOUND SYSTEMS AND LIGHTS, I WANNA BOWL...AND I WANNA BOWL CHEAP! My place is the same they have this rock'n'bowl BS and have the lights, speakers, the whole sound system, dance floor. Screw that, I want to bowl, not dance and listen to loud rap crap. Although, if they played more metal, that would be ok but still screw the lights!

I live in pennsylvania, about an hour from Philedelphia. I think its so expensive because its very new with all the latest and greatest. You know like the computer score keepers, like 50 tv's at least, 40 lanes to run, and like I said all the lights and crap.

I would say I try to practice outside of leagues I bowl in at least twice a month. My local house has a special on Thursdays at $1.00 a game, and the other house 10 miles up the road has automatic scoring but the open bowling for league bowlers is $1.75 a game.

Boy, I remember the times in college when we could bowl in any Brunswick house for $ .50 a game, my friends and I would trek around New England and bowling 15-20 games a piece for that price...

RDRVGS1, I also have found a way around it. We have automatic scorers, wich you can put on "skip" wich basically gives your practice, but it is not timed so you can throw as many balls as you want. The only problem is that it doesnt keep score, and doesnt show ball speed or anything like that.
