Practice Bowling
« on: February 01, 2005, 10:20:41 PM »
Im currently at about a 210 average and wondering about how to increase my average. We have a few bowlers in juniors that just shoot the same shot at practice night in and night out. then in league they shoot 210-220 for 7 weeks then they approch a uncombatible pair and shoot 160. then they go back to 210-220. now what i want to know is what do i do in practice since i practice everyday and have league twice a week. do i practice somthing else? if i do could you provide some examples, or do i practice somthing else? thanks

What I used to do in practice was find a line, and get confortable on it, and shoot a few good games. Then even if that line is still holding well, change lines completly, so I was somewhat uncomfortable and try and produce some good scores.

Other then that, concentrate on your sparing. Perfect example of that... I was bowling league one night and the pattern they put down was REALLY TOUGH, and I didnt have much of a look in at all. I didnt open a frame in the 3 games, shot 620. Its a grind, but It was the most satisfied ive felt after league ever.

good luck and high scoring

There are a few ways to approach this:

1.  Play a different arrow each game that you practice...but with the same ball.  This will teach you how to change your release and roll.

2.  Utilize your dry lane ball / spare ball up the dge and your heavy oil ball from way inside.  This work really well on my house shot since the shot for me is typically around 15 - 20 at the arrows.

There are so many other ways to attack things though.  I've gone into a pracitice set before with just my spare ball.  Shot at say the 10 or 7 pin in a full rack, then try to make what's left.

Practice in as many houses as you can.  Different surfaces and different patterns always helps.

I go practice at different times to get different lane condidtions and i never practice what i do well only things i don't do well. some games i will practice shooting the first ball at the 10 pin. if you just show up and throw what you do well it wont help you on things you don't do well. be diverse and you will be great!
