So DI I understand correctly that some of the hard headed "experts" on this site bash Jason Belmonte?

I guess I just don't understand why anyone cares how other people bowl. Personally, I think you should be able to bowl with 1 hand or 2, righty or lefty at any time if you're talented enough to switch back and forth. Now, I get why that can't happen in handicap environments, but still, if someone is good enough to use various styles with success, that shows that player's versatility; why punish him/her for that? Now that USBC placed restrictions on drilling so that two-handers can't technically have two weight holes (if they don't use the drilled thumb hole), I think the playing field is leveled. If you think traditional one-handed bowling is best, do it. If you think two-handed is better (and you're talented enough to use it), do that. I guess I'm just a stay in your own lane type of guy. I don't care what the guy/gal next to me is doing.   

I used to dislike Belmo because he seemed like a smug douche bag, and the whole "bottlegate" nonsense.

For me the two handed thing is not an issue. I'm waiting for someone to master the helicopter release and make even more people wonder if they are doing things wrong.

I think Belmo was handed a no-win situation. He was already an international superstar when he came to the PBA. While I don't think he is the greatest loser out there, and some of the issues he has had come from that, everything is magnified with Belmo. He was chosen to be the "face" of the PBA. They promoted the hell out of him. It was bound to make him a polarizing figure. Now add in the human factor, and you really have a love him/hate him dynamic. He is not the first bowler who wasn't the best role model on the lanes. Mark Roth was known for his temper and to yell at fans while he was bowling, but off the lanes was one of the nicest guys and well respected by his peers.

Also, how about Marshall Holman? He could be a bad "A" at times also and today he seems to be a decent guy.

Why is this a problem? It happens in every sport and I am sure it has happen to everyone at some point in their life. There a people that are just going to hate something about you.
It's life.

Until they realize that there is a life outside of the sport, that should give them a much bigger perspective.

Case in point: There was a time when nearly everyone had a strong dislike for PDW and everything he did or stood for in the PBA...

.. But I'll guarantee you there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd when they showed that presentation for Dick the last time they had the Dick Weber Open in Fountain Valley, Pete included.

That's why I loved watching A League of Ordinary Gentlemen. Gave me a much bigger perspective on them, their lives, and why they do what they do.

I remember a while ago when everyone jumped on Barnes for "choking" when it came to majors, let alone title matches, like that loss to Haugen. But seeing that he's doing this to keep a roof over his family's heads, and especially the JDRF, you can't help but like the guy.

I guess my point is that people may dump on Belmonte, but if they get to know the guy and know why he does it, all of that 'hatred' is wasted time.
