quote:quote:No they are talking about "tour edition" balls. Taking a ball that is well liked by a tour player and putting it with a modern label so it looks like he is throwing the new ball. The main example above was when Voss was with AMF. He has always loved the original Red Pulse from his Columbia days, he was not a fan of the newer balls AMF was making so they made him a special Angle Evolution Extra. It was called the Extra Tour II (it had a yellow pin). From my understanding this ball was a red pulse, but black and with Angle Evolution engraving. This made it look like he was throwing the "latest and greatest" and making the motion that he wanted to see down the lane. It's not as common as it used to be. Brunswick did it a lot back in the original Zone days. There were quite a few different versions of the Speed Zone floating around with different core/cover combos. I remember the "Pulse" remake as well (believe Voss and Duke threw them). I was on staff with Del (his last yr at AMF) during this time and our Angle Evolution staff balls actually came early and labeled with the name "Top Secret".I remember 3 tour versions within a few of the Zones. Debbie Morgan used to send lists around for shops to buy from. They typically went in covers from weak to weaker to urethane on TE3's (tour edition). I had a Combat Zone TE3, urethane w/core, pretty nice. The rumor was that some of these were produced for Walter Ray, don't know how true that was.--------------------Rick Leong - Ten Pins Pro ShopTag Team Coaching - Co-Founder"El" Presidente of the Legion
