Pre-Shipping Equipment
« on: May 10, 2005, 01:32:06 AM »
To all of you who've flown to tournaments and pre-shipped your equipment:  Please tell me how you packed it, how early do you need to ship it, who do you notify in the hotel about its arrival, etc.  I'm really nervous about the equipment getting misplaced or damaged.  Please provide all the details.

My son qualified (finally!) for Junior Gold, and I'm not sure I want to drive there myself.  My husband can't make it because my other son has camp, and he doesn't want to miss a week.

Thanks for any information you can provide me.

Debbie

I flew to one regional event.  This was back in the days when you could get away with carrying two of the two-ball totes on the plan.  I had another box of stuff that I packed using the shipping cases from the manufacturer and had it shipped via UPS to the center.  I shipped five working days in advance of the practice block just to be safe.

When it arrived at the center, they placed it in the paddock area for me and it was there in case I needed it...as it turned out, I never even needed to unbox the stuff as the carry-on equipment got the job done.

For shipping to a hotel, I would contact them and ask if they have a person or a department that they use to receive items shipped in advance of travel.  I know if I were to need to ship to a Wyndham, it would go to my Wyndham by Request contact who would then make sure it was in my room when I checked in.  Other perks programs should have a similar contact that will give you better service than the regular desk clerk would...

Thank you, Michelle.  Your reply was very informative and helpful.

On edit:  I connived my sister into coming, so we'll be sharing the driving.  No need for more information.
