Should you use a towel (or something else) to wipe your bowling ball before each shot? Why? When asked in person, people seem to have very religious convictions in both directions. Is there any other equipment-specific preparation that should be taken before each shot? For example, I always test the bottom of my slide foot on the approach before I line up for each shot.

I live and die by one phrase on this topic. Grip it and rip it. No pre-shot things here as far as my ball goes. I do, however, twitch my elbow around until it feels right.

i test my slide foot, too . . . too much beer on/around our table!!!
i usually wipe off my bowling ball before each shot because i don't want to get oil on my hand. my track is fairly close to my middle finger hole, so i usually have some oil where my "pointer" finger would rest on my ball.
i would think that if you wanted a consistent reaction, you would wipe off your ball . . . otherwise you'll get an oil build-up where your ball is flaring, and it would skid farther down the lane.

It varies. I also like to have my index finger out and it sometimes be a little slippery if I don't wipe my track near fingers.
Usually being on the wetter left I will usually wipe my ball completely each time.
Walter Ray Williams on the other hand focusing on getting the ball thru the somewhat usually dryer righthand heads seems to often leave his ball wet to assist in getting thru the heads, I think.
On days when I find dryer heads I also don't wipe my ball, there aren't many days like that but they happen.

I wipe the ball off for each shot (microfiber towel, thankyouverymuch)
and also test my slide foot at the back of the approach.

Always rub my brake and sole with my right hand, and then place my palm above the hand dryer for a few seconds. Then line feet up and place fingers and then thumb in twice slowly. I'm not the fastest person to bowl with either, lol.

Use to spin ball on the towel 3 times use the grip sac get set on the approack and tap my index finger 5 times to get a good pace counted out in my head for my approach. Now grab the grip sac get set on the approach and still tap my index finger 5 times for a good pace for my approach. HMMM could be why my average has dropped 10 pins this year not doing what I was use to.
