Mars vs Ogre Solid?

I was just looking at the Mars and its coloring reminded me of the Ogre Solid. Both are orange and black - Pumpkins. (I started calling my Ogre solid, the Pumpkin, when I had it. Mine had a lot of orange in it.) Then, I looked at both balls' specifications: medium-strong coverstocks, with high RG core (~2.6) and low RG differential  (.029" vs .020", biggest difference I see so far), and symmetric cores.

The major difference and a relatively trivial one to change is their stock surfaces. The Ogre solid is 600 grit US, while the Mars is 1500 grit polished.

I wonder how they'd compare with the same surface preparation and drilling. I have no present idea. I just wonder.

The Mars is a hybrid coverstock though, part pearl part solid, that may create a large difference and i'd be surprised if it was as strong as the Ogre Solid, I think the coverstock used on the Mars would be weaker formulation regardless of the pearl addition.

The closer comparison would be a Pluto vs an Ogre Solid...these two balls are VERY close in reaction...the Mars has a hybrid coverstock which helps the ball push a little farther downlane and be a little sharper at the breakpoint than the Ogre solid

The Mars fits somewhere inbetween the Ogre SS and the Ogre Pearl, its cleaner through the midlane than the pearl and is a little smoother downlane than the SS...

Hmm, possibly but the pLuto is not a "pumpkin".

You still have to take into account their vastly different surfaces.

That I see. My Ogre Pearl had a very strong midlane. The finer surfaced Ogre Solid, 4000 Abralon, had a nicer ball reaction for me than the Ogre Pearl.

Still I wonder. Pumpkin to pumpkin ...

I know.

My Ogre solid got a few very nice ball reactions wih polish and with 4000 Abralon surface. The video by Britton of the Mars made me think, a little, of my polished Ogre Solid. So I still wonder.

also if you see a Mars it doesn't really look black and orange, mine is like a black with pinkish and purple colors in it, looks pretty cool

This is very true, but heres what i can tell you:

I have taken an Ogre Solid and a Pluto to about 2000 and Polish...close to 1500 polished but not exact...both balls for me still had a tendency to be smooth throughout the entire lane, and really didnt get that jump off the dry like the mars has...now i havent gone the other way and tried my Mars at say 2000 or lower so i couldnt tell you there, i like the Mars so much OOB i havent had a reason to change the surface.
