Prebowling Mix-up
« on: April 19, 2009, 07:54:46 AM »
I have a question, My team and I pre-bowled today because we will be missing league this next week. The lanes were bad, and I mean BAD, I ended up throwing a straight ball at the head pin. I am not a sour grapes person so I just figured we must have been bowling on open bowling conditionn and continued to bowl. We finished the prebowl out most of us 20 pins under our average every game.

When taking our scores to the office we were informed we were bowling on the 2009 USBC Nationals Shot that had been put out on Saturday (so the shot was 48 hours old) because those were the only lanes available.

Should we be allowed to rebowl?

I don't want to be that person, but I think it's very unfair that we didn't have any prior notice that the conditions were far from league conditions. And we're in a tight race for first.

I don't think you would get to rebowl the games. When you prebowl you are at the mercy of your center. You take what they have available.

you should have asked... Most centers will even allow those who are prebowling to have their lanes stripped and oiled.

the answer is no...  you cant re-bowled again because your score was crappy..  its unfair for the other team..  your team took whatever lane were available and that the risk of it..

i hate it for you, but no
might have asked what was laid out there before hand, or requested to have them conditioned.

no mulligans on a pre bowl

on the flip side
it's no fun bowling without live competition there, and even though you guys scored low, that can actually have the opposite affect on a team.

ah all we got to shoot is X, and long about the 8 th frame everybody is looking around saying holy coy we better start bowling.........you get the picture

You are out of luck, you only get one shot at prebowling to be fair to the other team, and as for them conditioning the lanes for you we have asked and the only time we had success was when we made up when another league was bowling otherwise they told us that they do not take the machine out for one team.
The risk you run when you prebowl.

we got about 5 minutes of practice and I just thought it was the ball I was using. Toward the middle of game 1 I knew it was much more difficult then I thought.

Had I known I have the power to ask for a reoil I would've, so hind-sight 20/20 I learned my lesson.

I don't know any center in our area that would strip and oil for a pre bowl.  You want to pre bowl, you take your chances.

though we did have one team that pre bowled during 100 degree weather and broken A/C in the center.  They bowled horrible and then wanted to rebowl during league.  The same league day and time they couldn't seem to make and wanted to pre bowl for.  Go figure.  Needless to say, the league voted that their scores (during the A/C outage) stood.

as a secy no can't rebowl
but after practice if you thought it was wrong shot ask for a reoil
but on weekends everybody knows most centers would say thats what you got.
unless you could wait and bowl someother time.
you didn't bowl that bad a 538 on open shot
good luck & good bowling always

You are at the mercy of the center, you should of asked when they were last oiled before practicing.  I don't know a single center in my area and that includes 10+ centers that would oil just for a prebowl.
