Prediction and Poll
« on: August 22, 2004, 09:57:49 AM »
What will be the most used and talked about ball of 2004-2005? Which is the most versatile? Best bang for the buck?

Trying to get an idea from you guys so I know what to put on my shelves to start the season...

I am thinking the following look promising:

AMF Titan
Brunswick Nemesis
Columbia Bully
Ebonite Showtime Pearl
Hammer Switch Blade
Storm ReCharge
Track Freak A Zoid

Opinions????

I've been hearing a lot of people talk about the Big Block Diesel, and I've seen one myself, I think it could be the next big thing.  Except for she-ab.

Doug--I'll vote for the Bully.  I liked the write-up in BTM and could even see buying one as they'd be a good ball for even lane conditions <sport>.  I've ordered a D/T VPP though and they'll be a lot the same.

Doug,

Good call on the Nemesis, Bully, Switch Blade, and Freak-A-Zoid.  I agree with Andy on the Big Block, and the Rule looks good also.  Definitely take a hard look at the Intense Inferno and Roto's Oracle.  Lots of good pub for both of those balls.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Big Block Diesel, have yet to see one in action but from what I heard from the pro who drills up my equipment now it is a very good ball.

I think the Intense Inferno will be up there as well as the Nemesis. Triple Xtreme as well possible. I would say the Depth Charge but it doesn't seem like too many people are throwing this one.

Guys in my center are very cheap and I am looking for the balls for them. $150 and under seems to be the pricepoint. I agree that the XXX and the Intense Inferno are destined to be great balls but price there is a concern.

The other problem I encounter is brand recognition. People her are not willing to go out on a limb and try something they have never heard of. Therein lies my problem with Dynothane, RotoGrip, Lane 1,  and the same goes for the MoRich balls.

I tried to get the manufacturers to help me get some recognition for their line but they are being really tight with comp balls right now.

What about the Goliath.  If it comes close to doing what Brunswick claims, it should be a good seller at its price.  Does anyone have first hand experience with it yet?  --  JohnP

If you can only sell the "name brands", then I'll tell you, I'd be tempted to stick with just Columbia this year, Doug.

With a low-cost lineup like the Fear, Panic and Shock, supported by the Detour and the Bully for those few who want to spend a few extra bucks to get a different look, I don't think you could go wrong.

That's all I would stock.  If someone comes in looking for something different, you can always order it for him.  Why stock up on stuff you may or may not be able to sell?

Has anyone thought to mention the Flash Flood....  Good ball for a heavier condition and the ball hits hard...  This is just a good extension to the Flash Line from Storm...

My buddy has a big block diesel...very impressive piece.

I'm seeing a lot of people around my area buying balls from the Sonic Line.  Perhaps the Super Sonic will be a great seller, especially due to the price point.

Thanks for the input guys. Right now (with your input) I seem to be leaning towards the Titan, Nemesis, PowerGrooves, Shock, Detour, Panic, V-2 Sweet and Solid, Recharge, Flash Point, Pro Stock, Silver Streak and the Freak A Zoid.

I didn't put the Goliath or Flash Flood in there because our house shot does not demand such a ball for anyone and the SPORT shot we have is even worse.

As for myself, it's a crapshoot. I really want to give the Titan a shot but I have had so much good luck with Storm balls it's hard to shy away :-)

Doug,
I really think this refers to the type of conditions prevalent in your local bowling area. Whereas, I agree with your initial selection of balls, I tend to think the Bully, Oracle, Ultimate Inferno, and XXX will be the most talked about pieces for 2004-2005. In our area the UI reigns supreme, followed closely by the Killer Instincts, as far as useage and hitting power go. I've heard great stuff about those Diesels, though. The Rule, II, and FAZ could be super-sleepers, too.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!
