back in 2002 i averaged a 202 with a zone that my parents bought me when i was 16 (no idea what kinda ball just know its a zone lol). anyways its good for dry conditions but when i get into the heavy oil or even medium oil it just has no break to it unless i slow it way down. what would be my best option for buying a new ball. i would want a good all around ball for every condition since i dont take bowling too serious and dont wanna be lugging around 5 different balls. i just need somebody to point me in the right direction. i like to throw a late breaking ball that snaps into the pocket at the end. thanks for any suggestions.

thanks any advice on getting a ball drilled? i know getting it drilled differently changes stuff. just dont know the different drilling methods or is this something i could probably ask the person drilling it? lol

any company has equipment that will do what you ask ranging from 150 to 250 retail price if your wanting a long and strong look then yeah look at some of the hammers and some of the storms but also do a little reserch go see a pro shop person have them watch your style then they should be able to give you the right options without seeing you i can really advise you to get a certain ball but they could (if there any kind of pro shop they will)

Excellent advice. If the ball doesn't fit your hand properly, you won't be able to roll it as consistently, or possibly even with the right kind of release. Definately have your grip re-fitted no matter what ball you choose.

personally i would look at something a little more versitile the vg and from what i've seen the jigsaw are a little one demensional i would look into something more along the lines of the hot sauce or a breakpoint pearl or any ball thats usable on a wider variety of patterns. your average house pattern you can juse a vibe with the right drilling to get that desired effect but see your pro shop guy thats the way to go and i agree get re fitted and all that make sure the ball fits you good. im not saying those balls wont work for you but ive seen them struggle one the heads go and the oil carries down just my 2 cents

if your after just one ball then I would go for a ball that works best in medium but can be used outside of that (slightly lighter as well as heavier oil)

storm hy-road or rapid fire solid are good

hammer acid or black widow solid or onyx vibe

rotogrip nomad

columbia fullswing

etc...

as you can see there are a lot of choices. some work better then others in certain amounts of oil but those are a good starting point.

As you don't take bowling too seriously, I doubt that you'd ever see much extreme conditions (heavy oil or very dry). This leaves a wide variety of options available to you. I'd suggest the following balls because they will perform well at a lesser price:

Hammer's Onyx Vibe
Columbia 300's Freeze
Ebonite's Lane Breaker
Lane Master's Sure Strike
Brunswick Python
Storm Fast

my suggestion would be to buy something like a power or a full swing and drill it weak for your bowling style. my basic idea is to take a stronger ball but drill it weak so it will hook the bare minimum necessary on long/heavy oil conditions.

balls i would recommend would be:
-power swing (columbia 300)
-Full swing (columbia 300)
-Virtual gravity (storm)
-Virtual energy (storm)
-T road solid/pearl (storm)
-Hyroad (storm)
-The sauce (hammer)
-Hot sauce(hammer)
-cell / cell pearl / rogue cell (roto grip)

the great thing about a strong ball drilled weak is that it will work on almost any lane condition. just to show you what i mean look on the pbas shedule and look at alot of the events you see alot of the balls they use (even on the cheetah) are the higher line higher friction balls. for example we saw chris barnes throwing a resurgence (we all know thats a very strong ball) on the cheetah in the match play championship.

by the way don't be afraid to slow it down sometimes throwing it at normal speed on heavier/longer conditions can cause terrible pin carry so don't worry about slowing it down.

I'm with lefty, I don't think you should get a heavy oil ball since that's most likely not what you bowl on. I would ask the center you mainly bowl at how heavy the oil is just in case. Since you seem to have dry covered, my vote goes to something like a Hy-Road, Nomad Solid, or Cool Noize. the polished ones you will probably want some surface.

thanks for all of your advice on which ball to get. i ended up gettin the hammer hot sause this weekend. and man was i so ever pleased. first game out of the box i got a 222, followed by 203, 210, and 248. ball fits my bowling style perfect. i couldnt be happier. thanks again for all the advice.
