Pro-shop in CT?
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:28:27 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a reputable pro-shop in eastern Connecticut?
I've had a couple balls drilled in my area by the same place.  After  getting a little education  I realized i was getting a bad  deal. Neither time did he watch me bowl, check my pap or even ask any  questions other than "do you want it to hook a lot?".  I live in  southeastern CT but work in new haven, I'd definitely be willing to  drive to get my ball drilled the way its supposed to be.(within reason)   I was thinking about going to buddies but that's a 2 hour+ ride for  me...
 Thanks.

IMHO I would go to buddies.  I drove down from NH and have not changed since.  I would call ahead and let them know you would like to come in and have somebody look at the way you bowl and make recommendation for equipment and drillings.

You can try Gary Grant in Wallingford Bowl, not that far from New Haven.

I live in Groton. Buddies is worth the drive. Talk to Chris Forry, bring some old equipment with you. Let him watch you bowl, measure out the PAP. Drill it up, if it fits good, you're good to go. Then you can order anything you want off the site and they have your drilling sheet on file. Pretty much every ball is enough money to qualify for free shipping, and after their drill20 coupon, 30 bucks to drill with grips+slug.

I've been drilling everything with buddies since last year. Aside from getting better from a personal standpoint, not just equipment fit/wise, I went from 203 to as high as 230, and consistantly in the 220s everywhere average wise.

If you have any questions in the future before you get a ball in terms of layout or what ball, give chris a call or send him an email, he will talk it out with you and give you a layout or a ball choice.

These guys really know what they're doing and I've been a loyal customer ever since.

Gary Grant at Wallingford Bowl or Bob Fleetwood at Milford Ten Pin are reputable.  I don't live in that area of CT and go elsewhere, but have friends who are loyal customers of both Gary and Bob.

Thanks for the help guys.  I ended up going over to buddies today and had a great experience.  Was there about 2 hours (at least one of those was on the lanes)  I highly recommend them to anyone in the area looking for a pro-shop.

Glad to here. I find the best time in the future if going there is to call ahead and try and get him to squeeze you in first thing in the AM. Place tends to get busy, especially with people showing up with 10 balls at a time.
