Lane play for PBA patterns
« on: November 09, 2008, 03:05:31 AM »
I am starting going to a tournament(small sweeper) however I have never rolled on a PBA pattern and would like advice as to ways to play each(preferably more in depth than the PBA site). Thank you also I am unsure at this time which pattern so I dont know what to take where to start(general idea)I throw medium revs and medium to low bal speed.

If there is a practice session like they do in regionals(I.E. the day before the actual competition), try to not take everything you see that day into the next day.  Many will say that they always seem completely different when it actually counts.

Like some have already said, just start off with a pretty straight line to the pocket.  If you have a great ball you know you can always depend on(benchmark), start with that, regardless of the pattern I say.  Build what you use(and more importantly when you use it) around that.

Another good piece of advice, is to watch what the others are doing if you can't find it right away.  Especially those who you know have been there and done that before.

Does it really matter?

You can take any pattern and subtract 31 from the length and have an idea of what area you should start. This advice comes from a poster on Bowltech.

Like I was saying I had to play my polished urethane from 5 out to 1 to carry pocket(very difficult shot though). So tips, balls to look into etc.
