Home Bowl Closing Down
« on: January 30, 2005, 06:22:28 AM »

I found out on Tuesday that my home bowl is closing down next month for good.As my fiancee and myself are the league co-ordinators ( 6yrs in the job), tonight we had to tell all our Sunday league players the bad news, tomorrow I have to have the same meeting with our Monday league, not a nice experience.I have been going to this centre for 9yrs ever since I starded bowling,Debs has been going there for 13yrs and we actually met in the bowl.
The reason for the closure is financial but it doesn't make it any easier to take.We do bowl in another centre but it's not the same as your home centre is it.Sorry if this is depressing anyone but I feel like I needed to say something.

We had our house close down about 12 years ago. The elderly, female owner wanted cashed out. While I was in the midst of obtaining a partner and financing, a large tire store next door gave her the cash.

We were without a house for 9 years. There were none any closer than 45 miles and it was old and facing closure. No other houses for 90 miles and all over mountain passes.

We have been bowling now for 4 years in a new house but it just isn't the same. It is owned and operated by non-bowlers. They don't know and don't care. It is better than not bowling at all.

I see these things happening a lot--non bowlers building centers as investments.

These are sad and scary times for the industry.  Hopefully they will be eager to learn and will listen to the experienced bowlers for advice.
