pro shop prices
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:47:13 AM »
i was at a pba regional tournament this weekend watching the action and couldn't help noticing some prices on items and services in the pro shop at this bowling center:

brunswick bowling balls( includes drilling )

copperhead & swarm $175
ultra zone $200
avalanche series $150

morich bowling balls( includes drilling )

n'sane levrg & n'tense levrg  $240

finger grips $6 apiece

i'm not in the pro shop business so i'm not sure but these prices seem high to me. anyone ?

One other thing to think about as well is the cost of shipping things now. I hvae not shipped anything for awhile but I am sure UPS, FEDEX, DHL, and USPS have raised thier prices. With higher shipping prices just like everything else the price will be higher.

those are good prices drilled, South Point here in Vegas was getting 279.95 for Morich plus grips and thumb slug. Of course they sat and rotted as most of us will never pay that, they ended closing them out for 150 plus drilling being a little sneaky.

The internet(Ebay) has made it possible to snag deals, just won an Arch Rival for 102.00 shipped with good specs from a seller I have used before.

Sounds reasonable to me if they include the drilling and only a $6 charge for inserts.  The Morich's may be a bit high, but you can normally get a little more for those.

Couldn't be happier I invested in my own drill press, and accessories, and took the time to learn the basics of getting started.  I have enough knoweledge to drill for myself and my wife, and for now, that's plenty good enough for me.  Prices on everything have gone up, and I can't put a whole lot of blame on the pro shops, they need their income just like anyone else, but it's been so long since I've priced equipment in a shop, yeah, that would have seemed high to me also.

All this boils down to the service you recieve. If you have confidence with ur ball driller than the prices dont mean a hill of beans.... There are some centers near my area, that I wouldnt pay 150 for a drilled N'Sane for simply because they are terrible ball drillers and sometimes dont have the right size inserts, etc. Right now, I get Shawn McKee to drill my stuff in a town called Mooresville, NC. I have to drive over an hour to get there and he is kinda expensive... But now I get chance to use switch-grips and always have the inserts when I need to change a dozen balls. For me, this means alot. Hope my insite helps, John

Well in my shop we sell the ultra zone at 224.99 and avalanche is at 159.99. Then again we are known to be terribly overpriced, but we have a killer sale going on over 20 balls, damn near internet price.

I've frequented the same pro shop for many years now, and buy all my balls there. If I can afford it, I don't mind paying a little more because I value the service and expertise I receive, and he has to make a living too.

Bowling has one of the lowest net profit margins of any industry, because of a lack of restraint by companies selling direct to the public.  Shops are going under left and right and the big boys (B'wick, Ebonite, Storm) could care less.

Go online and try to find a new Taylor Made Tour Burner for less than you can buy it in the store....unless it is ebay you won't find it.  Go find a pair of Oakley sunglasses for less than Sunglass Hut....won't happen.

Those industries protect the retail stores....bowling continually s@#t$ on them.

word up, Russell has hit the nail right on the head. Ill second that by giving another analogy: try buyin a used car online for less then u can talk a sales guy down on a car lot. Proshops cant even cut deals anymore because of how little money they are makin of the products, and bowlingball.com's special deals every day are sometimes lower then the cost we get from our distributor.

eBay is killing the golf industry sales also.  Ping is the only company making their dealers follow their MSRP.  I've seen new TM Burner drivers at dealers under the MSRP.
