Pro Shop Tips and Tricks Volume 2 + Shot preview

In this video I show our "procedure" for making the vent hole in the side of the IT slugs, then I make a recommendation for how to glue in finger grips to ensure they'll stay in, leave room to insert shims, and be flush with the surface of the ball all the way around without doctoring or cutting.  I also make recommendations on how to plug balls to minimize the risk of cracking.  Thanks for watching, appreciate feedback and questions as always!

If you have a hand drill in your shop you can do the same thing using a 3/32" bit.  --  JohnP

I find that if I put glue on the bridge side of the finger inserts that I get more cracked bridges than if I don't put glue there and especially if the fingers are equal distance from the thumbhole then with 2 spots of glue I get almost double the amount of cracked bridges.. I was told by a ball rep that the glue pulls the resins to the exterior surface of the ball which is what is causing the bridges to crack.. Your input???

I try to avoid gluing inserts at the top of the holes. I use Loctite Gel and do my best to get the glue down inside the ball and glue the insert to the filler instead of the coverstock.

I have VERY few cracked bridges. In fact I can only could on one hand the number of cracked bridges I have had in the 15 years I have been in business.

+1, good tip here.  The filler is more porous and not as dense or hard as the cover is, doesn't necessarily translate to more flexible, but it does translate to being much easier on the coverstock.  Using less glue will also help too, you really don't need much glue to keep a grip in.
