My house rack arsenal for 2008
« on: December 31, 2007, 02:57:08 AM »
We have a new guy bowling with us, he just started a few weeks ago and I found out he had never bowled before, ever.  I was going through the house balls helping him find one to use, to speed up the process.  He held up a ball and asked if it was a good ball, "... it's got a Rhino on it", it was a Teal Rhino pro.  I told him yeah, that was a great ball, 10 years ago there was one on every ball return.  I started thinking and looking further for other good balls, I found several.  I went to the desk and asked if I could buy there balls from them, or bring in 4 older urethane and plastic balls to trade, they just said trade is fine.  I took 3 balls to the pro shop, they got plugged and machine resurfaced.

I have a...

Teal Rhino pro drilled 2X2 at 500 grit with a coat of Finesse-it over it

Original X-Calibur drilled 4X4 at 1000 grit with some Storm polish

and a Gold Rhino pro drilled 5 1/2X4 at 4000 grit with some type of Storm polish

Two weeks later I am liking what I am seeing so far, I think this is all I need for attacking a THS.

Has any one else tried any thing like this before?

yes i do it now.  plug, resurface, sale & give away.  drilled a fuze and a turbo x for my buddies son, that he liked and got from the local alley.  swapped them with some old white dots.

darn lucky you found the xcalibur.  ive been hoping to find one on a rack but haven yet.

The house I bowl in actually throws balls away that are left on the lanes. Not that they do it right away, it is usually set behind the desk for about a month and then if no one claims it it will get tossed. People are asked and everyone is informed that a ball has been left. No one wants it, in the trash it goes.

A friend of mine picked up a Danger Zone this year off the house rack.  I only wish I had seen it first.

Over the summer i found a mint Ebonite Red Wolf Solid that i actually had plugged and redrilled and worked awesome. It actually outhooked anything i had in my bag at the time. Never forget that ball. Comet790 knows what im talking about.

my last two years of juniors my favorite ball was a Red Wolf Solid that I found on the rack...span was close enough to try...ball rolled like a truck...think I had two 290's and a 763 with it

one ball in my arsenal is the speed zone, picked it up, plug and sleeve and done! dry/short pattern ball

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

all the centers around here have gone to the pre-drilled "houseballs" that are available from distributors.

The balls are all cheap, color coded, three piece urethane and clearly marked as house balls.

Used to bowl travel league and come across balls on the racks that could be readily bought or traded for for a little of nothing, but no longer.
