Bowling Style / Form
« on: May 11, 2014, 08:06:32 AM »
If you wanted to totally rework your bowling style or form what would be the first thing you would do. I have been fighting a losing and frustrating battle with my form that I just don't feel like bowling that much, I like bowling too much to quit and I think my best approach would be to start all over and try something new. In the area I live there isn't any coaching available and I will pretty much have to do this on my own. I used to have a cranker style when I was younger but I had a wrist injury and now I'm more of a tweener, I also have a really bad problem now of muscling the ball and I can't seem to stop it.

Just looking for some tips on where to begin or how. Or if anybody knows of a good coach in the southwest area of Pa some info would be great.

I traveled several hours to see a good coach
totally worth it
you really need solid fundamentals first, then you will understand what to work on in practice and what to do when you are struggling
seeing yourself on film is an eye-opener

coaching is a must if you want to be better, whatever level you are now is immaterial as long as you want to get better

Start with your foot work and timing. That's usually where most people have a problem and if you get that part solid then a lot of other issues will correct themselves! Just my $.02, Bruce

There has to be somebody in the Pittsburgh area, but I don't know of anyone off the top of my head.  If you want a shorter road trip than NJ, Jeri Edwards does lessons in Akron.

If you are willing to turn it into a vacation, then I would suggest the Kegel Training Center In Lake Wales Florida.  This is a really cool bowling training facility. I have been there a few times---but I went just to practice--I was able to bowl on different patterns---you can also have private or group lessons there. The have all sorts of sophisticated computer and video equipment. I have watched people receiving lessons while I was practicing and they take you to the monitors after you have thrown some shots and they analyze your shot and everything, seems likje it would be well worth the money. They even have a pro shop at this training facility. the website is here

You could always go to Mark Baker's Camp Bakes! He goes to different locations and if you get enough people he will come to you! I think they limit it to 25 bowlers and he has top level coaches help with the camp. Kegel is also another great place to go and they also offer a discount if you have several bowlers going. All the pros, both men and women have different styles of approaches, but they all have the same position at the finish. Just my $.02, Bruce
