Problems With Dry Lanes
« on: January 14, 2009, 10:07:00 AM »
Hey guys. I'm fairly new to bowling (I think I got my first ball in march of 08') and am having trouble with the dry lanes. It's not so much of just a short pattern or anything, it's just that the place I bowl at doesn't oil their lanes as often as they should. I use an Ebonite Gamebreaker and a Roto Grip Cell Pearl. My main problem isn't so much that it's hooking to much (even though it does) but that there isn't nearly enough skid. I usually stand on the big dot, but when the lanes are that dry, I generally move over three boards, or sometimes to the second dot in the most extreme cases. My mark is the 6 arrow, or 2-3 boards left depending. I can normally hit pretty good, but with the lanes as dry as they are, my ball is pretty much hooking at my toes, and sometimes doesn't even make it close to the five arrow.

Any advice on what kind of ball I should get? I want something that will still have some decent backend further down the lane, but I want it to have good enough skid I can stay on my mark. I've been considering a plastic ball, but I don't know if that would give me enough hook. Any suggestions?

Plastic is an option or something such as a Hammer Razyr

when somebody says they stand on the big dot, you don't recommend them a new ball lol.

If the lane are as dry as you say there, nothing will have enough skid. Chances are a weaker ball wont help you until you improve, so throw the Cell Pearl and move further left.
