What brand is the best in shoes now adays
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:34:07 AM »
I'm just getting back into bowling after a few year. My Dexter have seen better days. Is Dexter still one of the beat or is there better now?

IMHO, the SST6 LX's have been quite impressive.  I'm a pretty good sized individual that has traditionally been harder on my older Lind's shoes.  That is until about six or seven years ago when I tried out the newer Dexter products.  I've had the SST6 LX's for about three years and have been very happy.

In all honesty, both of these are solid choices for you.  However, the extremely cooperative customer service personnel from Dexter will give them the nod from this mortal.  Whenever I've had questions regarding product or warranty, they've been very helpful.  That does not mean the ABS/3G/Dynothane products & service are second rate, it simply means that I've had great experience with the folks at Dexter.

For me, the 3G Tour Ultras are the most comfortable and I get the best slide options with them.  Durability has not been a problem.

After 4 years of good service, I recently went out to replace my SST5's. My local shop had a pair of SST8's in my size, so I tried them on for fit and feel. The SST8's felt great walking around in out of the box, and provide a level of lateral stability you don't get with Tour Ultra's. I went ahead and bought them on the spot.

After about 30 games, no regrets at all. It took a few games to get used to, but I love the additional support you don't get with the more 'slipper' feel shoes. As far as the argument about comfort, you have to have some serious orthopedic issues if you don't feel great in these shoes from game 1.

Anyway, a vote for the SST8's.

first thing u have to ask ur self is how much u plan on bowling? How lite do u want them ? One thing most dont think about do u drag ur toe? Most important the size? Dyno's are the lightest show out there with a toe cap. For me the best shoe is the SST 6 Le. Problem i have is show is great nice and wide plant area but im a toe dragger. I go threw 1 pair ever 5-6 months . Looking into getting a pair of sneakers made up till then i get to deal with dexter and there warrenty

3G has "The Shuffler Series."  Anyone tried them?

I'm using 3G Tour Ultras here and they seem to be just fine so far.

The Tour Ultra by 900Global are the most comfortable but since Dexter owns the rights for the sole to be all velcro they are still the best. The Tour Ultra's are stiched on the outside 1/2" and after that sole wears out the shoe is done.

My vote goes to Dexter.

ive had dexters, dynorooz, and etonics.

my take, etonics most comfortable least versitle, dynorooz most comfortable but still very versitile with being able to change heel and sole but for me crap for holding up, dexters arent the most comfortable but hold up the longest by far.

stupid dynorooz the little ring around the sole feel apart in months.

vote for dexter.

I own 2 pairs of Lind's Classics, 1 pair of Etonic Classics and a Pair of Dynaroos/900Glocal/ABS/3G.  The Dynaroos are really nice.  The Etonics are more comfortable but the Dynaroo's heels are better.  The Lind's are uncomfortable but wear like iron.  I have no need for interchangeable soles but the Tour Ultra heels make the shoes.  They are just great!  Weird thing about them is that I wear a 6 1/2 or 7 in everything else but I wear an 8 in Tour ultras.

Circa 1973 I bought a pair of the Linds custom classics - the ones that you draw outlines of your feet on sheets of paper and give them some measurements.  About 10 years ago my feet had grown and the shoes were no longer comfortable, so I ordered another pair, and must have gotten one of the last pairs made this way.  When the next Linds catalog came out they no longer listed a custom made shoe.  My shoe size is 15 EE.  The "new" pair still looks brand new and I fully expect them to outlast me (I'm 62).  I use the Bowler's Slide Sock, so don't have to worry about wearing out the slide sole.  --  JohnP

For durability nothing will beat the Linds classics. You can and should expect 10+ years out of a pair. I have a friend who has almost 20 years on his.

They aren't as comfortable as some of the others, but I figure that I'm not wearing them all day long, and I really hate breaking in new shoes all the time...
