2 handed ball choice
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:05:50 AM »
Looking at my signature you can see the mild success I've had 2 handed, compared to 1 handed.

I find a great over/under reaction with the equipment I currently throw 2 handed.  Pluto and Ogre Pearl.

I am looking to pick up a scout so I can go more of a down and in 2 handed.

What balls do you use for your 2 handed?

thanks

I throw 2 handed, the best balls that have worked for me over the years are TNV, Complete NV, X Factor Ace, Cell Pearl, Playmaker. Anything that had a good midlane read and I could control the backend with.

Ball choice would really depend on what you're bowling on and how much speed you normally put on the ball.  I wouldn't necessarily recommend anything strong if you're going to have a hard time to get it down the lane.  What do you think your average speed you throw 2 handed at? Are you normally throwing on a house shot?

I'd agree with JD on possibly houses that have backends that fly, I tend to go with the mid-lane type ball to calm down the backend reaction, but if you don't have enough back end you may end up hitting dead leaving flat 10s or soft 7s.  I would say if you're looking for something you can play mainly down and in with on a traditional house shot, maybe look at a smooth reaction ball possibly a Natural, Fast or lower end ball because on a house shot the outsides tend to be drier, again dependent on your speed and adjustments you feel comfortable with. (I can only recommend balls that I'm familiar with, not that I'm brand specific).

on Qubica I am about 16mph 2 handed

I decided on a used scout for $35.

I'll be bowling 2 leagues 1 handed

and subbing in 2 leagues 2 handed.

If I am bowling very well 2 handed is it unethical for me to then bowl in one of my regular leagues 2 handed during a position round?  It's legal, but how ethical?

Yes that is legal, nothing really unethical about it.  It's just as if you were using another ball, you probably will have haters when you make the switch but as long as it's not with the opposite hand or illegal then who cares what other people think. Some people still think bowling two handed period is unethical, who cares.

What I found hard though is when I tried to keep both styles and maintain my game at a higher level, it was tough for my body to differentiate between the two and my timing would be out of whack causing both averages to drop.  I would recommend deciding which style you're most comfortable and successful with and stick with that one.

I was really comfortable with 2 handed for a few months.  Then had tightness in my glute and  it forced me to pull up on my shot and I couldn't stay down 2 handed, so I went back to 1 handed, shot 300, 299 and 800.   I have a lot more fun 2 handed and am suffering injuries on my bowling hand.  It physically hurts to throw the ball each time.

I want to master both ways so then I basically have more ball options.   It will be an interesting season
