Shattered/missing pin on the ball....
« on: May 24, 2007, 12:45:06 PM »
Hey folks.  Stumbled across a used V2 on the house ball rack, probably left behind because of some deep scratches on the cover.  But what caught my eye is that the pin looks like it is shattered and partly missing.  However, the cover surrounding the pin is NOT CRACKED.

After a good resurfacing, would this ball be legal to use with a partly missing pin? (Looks shattered and depressed almost a 1/4") Or would it have to be filled in with plugging material and leveled flush to the ball's surface?

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

I found an Thunder Road on the house rack.  Grips and everything.  One of my friends picked it up while we were practicing and two finger rolled it down the lane.  It didn't do very much, but he was a lefty, and the core was flipping against him.  I palmed it the same way, and no joke, the ball too out the seven pin off a clean rack!  "It's a little strong!" He said.

Actually, the center allows me to "trade".  I can take it as long as I leave something behind.  I was planning on leaving behind a Columbia Scout.

Not a band deal if I can legally use the V2 with a busted pin, huh?

A broken or missing pin does not make the ball illegal.  But to protect the ball from cracking I'd take it to the pro shop and ask them to plug the hole for you.  Shouldn't cost much.  --  JohnP

Second that. I have a similar problem on my S&A, where the pin had been partly drilled away. Started to crack, and now, after 1 and a half years, it is falling apart. Patched it up with some 2 component epoxy putty, since a drill-and-plug job is difficult due to the finger hole proximity, but if the pin is standing alone I'd ask a pro shop to drill it out and have it plugged.

The pin cracked out of my Wildcat. I just had it plugged and still use the ball with no ill effects.

i dont think is legal to have a hole in teh ball than "can" hurt the lane. Just plugg it or fill it up with some plugg stuff.
